Why we need you

Springboard Collaborative invites talented and passionate candidates to apply for the position of Head of Business Intelligence (BI). The Head of BI will be responsible for ensuring Springboard’s business performance against enterprise goals is timely, accurate, understood, and actionable. A successful candidate will have experience in managing BI tools, creating executive dashboards, identifying and diagnosing business issues, and managing small teams of technical experts.

Springboard Collaborative closes the literacy gap by closing the gap between home and school. We coach educators and family members to help kids learn to read by 4th grade. Springboard envisions a world in which all children have the requisite literacy skills to access life opportunities.

The Head of BI will initially be an individual contributor, and is expected to build the function from scratch. Within 6 months we expect the role to manage at least one junior analyst. We expect the role to manage at least three analysts within 18 months.

The Head of BI will report to the AVP, Strategy and will be a key contributor to the Springboard Leadership Team. This is a great opportunity for an experienced candidate to build a new and important function from scratch.

Here are your priorities in the first year:

  • You will implement BI system for org-wide Outcomes reporting (by end of Q3)
  • You will establish performance monitoring and reporting for org-wide goals (by end of Q3)
  • You will establish effective, weekly, partner-level performance reporting (by end of Q4)
  • You will proactively identify 95% of data quality issues (EOY run-rate)
  • You will identify suite of leading indicators for 2024 reporting implementation (Q4)

Here are your responsibilities within and beyond the first year:

  • You will complete the data strategy implementation management project
    • Work closely with AVP of Systems and implementation consultants
    • Gather and prioritize business requirements from the entire organization
  • You own business performance monitoring and reporting
    • Determine most critical performance management needs
    • Work with leadership team and subject matter experts to develop accurate, timely, impactful metrics and monitoring mechanisms
    • Act as “business owner” for BI system(s) to build effective reporting tools (dashboards, reports, performance alerts)
  • You will build tools to monitor performance diagnostics & troubleshoot issues
    • Proactively monitor key performance indicators
    • Act as internal consultant to work with operational leaders to diagnose performance issues / opportunities
  • You own the creation and performance of org wide KPIs & Springboard’s data catalog
    • Own the “single source of truth” for data and metrics
    • Ensure data structure and analytical models are optimized for BI system use
  • You are responsible for data quality monitoring
    • Develop data quality checks (with AVP of Systems and external service providers) to ensure all critical data is complete and accurate
    • Monitor data quality systems to rapidly identify, troubleshoot, and resolve data quality issues (with appropriate operational and system owners)

Here are the requirements we expect the right candidate to meet:
  • 5+ years of small team management experience
  • 5+ years of operational analytics experience, including KPI design, analysis
  • 3+ years of large organization performance reporting ownership
  • 3+ years of BI system ownership
  • 3+ years of technical project management (e.g., system implementation, process design) experience
  • 3+ years of operational improvement diagnostic & implementation experience

Compensation

Our compensation values: At Springboard, compensation equity is integral to the way we operate and our commitment to competitiveness, pay equity, performance-based rewards, transparent & equitable career growth, and progressive benefits.

Compensation for this role: Each role at Springboard is placed in a compensation band with 5 levels. This role sits within Band 7. Generally, we expect all candidates that meet the hiring criteria to be offered a salary of $176,500. The actual level of the successful candidate (and corresponding salary) will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, and other factors. You may also be eligible for Springboard's collective bonus program.

Our process to determine compensation: Springboard does not negotiate the offered salary during the offer conversation. Throughout the interview process, we will evaluate your alignment with the compensable factors listed in the job description. From there, we will determine your starting salary on a level within the job band.

Location and travel

Applications are welcome from any location within the United States. This role can be performed remotely and will require less than 10% travel. Required travel will include quarterly leadership team and annual org-wide retreats, along with (rare) funder or partner-requested in person meetings. Self-directed travel will include program visits and general team management needs.

Springboard requires in-person employees at a Springboard facility or participating in in-person SBC programming or events to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless a medical or religious exemption is approved. Being fully vaccinated means an individual is at least two weeks past their final dose of a CDC-authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. As a condition of employment, newly hired employees will be asked to provide their COVID-19 vaccination status and proof of vaccination, as required.
