The Digital Hub in Seattle focusses on developing a cloud architecture and building out the cloud platform for the next generation of connected car services. The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center.
The role will start with triaging our current fleet of highly automated vehicles and eventually advance into developing the future generation of the Mercedes-Benz ADAS system in the Parking Software Development team. The team works in the field of near field Perception, Fusion, Planning and Localization. Advanced driver assistance and autonomous driving systems (SAE levels 2-4) for urban and highway driving are the focus. The Parking Software Development team is part of the Autonomous Driving team at MBRDNA and part of the global Mercedes-Benz R&D development team. Major contributions of the team are overall architecture, design, functional algorithms, embedded driving software of our development and customer vehicles as well as tools and processes necessary for successful software development and verification & validation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Triage and analyze recorded measurements from a fleet of highly automated vehicles
  • Developing robust and memory efficient real-time algorithms for sensor fusion and integrate software into test vehicles
  • Developing high-quality source code by applying best-practice software engineering methods, including code reviews, design guidelines, refactoring, unit and regression testing
  • Screening of state-of-the-art sensors and algorithms, especially regarding camera, LiDAR and radar data processing

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills, especially in statistics, estimation and optimization
  • Proficient programming skills in C++ and some scripting language (e.g. Python)
  • Background in machine learning and deep learning concepts and algorithms
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks such as Tensorflow, PyTorch, Caffe
  • Proficient knowledge in general software engineering (code design, patterns, source code versioning tools such as git)
  • Proficient with Linux SW development environments
  • Experience with state estimation concepts (Bayesian filters, Kalman, EKF, particle filters) and their implementation
  • Ability to interact with remote locations over different time zones and create a link between remote locations and Silicon Valley
  • Driving a vehicle is required for this position

  • Solid knowledge about at least two sensor technologies relevant for self-driving vehicles (camera, LiDAR, radar, ultrasound)
The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, job-related education, skills, and experience, geographic location, and market conditions. The current salary range for this position is as follows and may be modified in the future: $122,700 - $153,400.
