Data Science Lead - Risk (Remote but Reachable)

About the team: 

The Data Science team at Luno unlocks value hidden in the huge volumes of data we collect to provide fast and deep insights to help inform our product development and business strategy. The team is part of the broader Product team at Luno, which includes Product Management, Product Design and Customer Research. 

The role in a nutshell:

As we accelerate on our mission to put crypto in everyone’s hands, we will need to understand how customers are using our product and improve the decisions we make through better insight. You’ll be focussed on this critical step of creating business value through the use of data to guide our decision making and help us build better products and improve our processes.

This role will be part of the Data Science team that is headed up by Gorden, Luno’s Head of Data Science. Meet him here.

Your mission will be:

• Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of Luno’s customer risk scoring capabilities from development through to deployment and iteration
• Collaborate with Engineers, Product Managers, Product Designers, Compliance and Financial Crime teams to optimise product performance
• Design metrics to accurately evaluate product performance and business health
• Hack through complex business problems using statistics and advanced analytics to provide insights towards making better decisions and building better products 
• Influence the product roadmap by identifying opportunities for Data Science to add business value
• Implement systems and processes to help scale our insights
• Formulate business requirements into analytical objectives
• Design and run experiments to validate hypotheses
• Use data to learn about our customers and how they are using our product 
• Coach and mentor Data Scientists and Associate Data Scientists
• Set new standards, share best practice and introduce improved ways of working

A little about you:

• You have a Bachelors or higher in a Data Science related field 
• You are passionate about Data Science and related disciplines
• You have experience as a Lead Data Scientist (or similar) in a product-driven organisation
• You have a solid understanding of the Financial Crime domain and the opportunities Data Science presents
• You have a detailed understanding of applying statistical techniques to solve business problems
• You have built and productionised machine learning models at scale
• You have experience with cloud-based analytics platforms and big data technologies e.g. Databricks, PySpark or similar
• You are proficient in Python and have experience using Data Science libraries
• You have experience with visualisation and reporting tools e.g. Looker, Tableau or similar
• You have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to navigate a complex stakeholder landscape
• You are intellectually curious and have the persistence to find answers to difficult questions 
• You communicate technical concepts to non-experts in simple and understandable terms
• You are a team player, enthusiastic about growing and developing others
• You can handle uncertain and ambiguous scenarios
• You keep abreast of developments and emerging trends in Data Science
