Machine Learning Manager

Role purpose

As a Machine Learning Manager, you are leading teams of talented Machine Learning Engineers. As a servant leader, you ensure your teams are thriving not only in terms of impact but also in terms of collective and individual growth. Reporting to the Vice President of Artificial Intelligence, with your peers, you are part of the leadership group setting the standard of excellence for machine learning at Jumio. As an expert in machine learning and deep learning, you guide your teams in designing robust machine learning systems for retrieval, open-set classification in cases of very large numbers of classes, information extraction and structuring.

Example Responsibilities

• Design robust and scalable production-grade machine learning, deep learning systems, in particular systems with large language models.
• Foster a mindset of well crafted code and architecture
• Lead research to support the deployment of advanced algorithms.
• Develop, evolve, and support production-quality code.
• Deploy models as AWS Sagemaker endpoints.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in deep learning, computer vision, and foundational models by engaging with academic papers and attending industry conferences.
• Work collaboratively with other engineering leaders, architects and product managers in an Agile development environment.
• Mentor the technical and professional development of your team members

Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of commercial experience as a machine learning engineer.
• A minimum of 3 years of commercial experience as a manager of machine learning engineers.
• Proficiency in computer vision and deep learning techniques.
• Hands-on experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow, OpenCV, SKLearn, and in developing production-grade Python code.
• Demonstrated experience in implementing best practices for monitoring and maintaining ML models in production environments.
• Experience in building, training, and deploying models, including deploying  to production environments.
• Ease at managing engineers in a multi-functional matrix environment.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Great to Have Experience and Qualifications

• Experience with large language models (LLMs).
• PhD in Computer Science or related field with a specialization in computer vision or deep learning.
• Experience in Java, C++
• Experience in responsible AI.
