Machine Learning Engineering Manager - Personalization

The Personalization team makes deciding what to play next easier and more enjoyable for every listener. From Daily Mix to Discover Weekly, we’re behind some of Spotify’s most-loved features. We built them by understanding the world of music and podcasts better than anyone else. We are looking for an expert Machine Learning Engineering Manager to join Spotify's Personalization team. This role is in the Listening Experiences product area, which is a part of the Quest tribe—Spotify’s division that is dedicated to building world class listening experiences. This MLE Manager will drive recommendations across some of Spotify’s biggest playlists amounting to a significant percentage of overall Spotify consumption. From “Daily Mix” to “Radio” to Artist/Genre/Mood/Decade “Mixes” you will have a large impact on how we power these sets and our next generation of listening experiences. You’ll be collaborating with top industry experts in building our recommendations infrastructure and improving the listening experiences of hundreds of millions of users.

What you'll do

• You will help build a shared team of ML, Backend and Data Engineers, and lead through hiring, coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development
• You will provide mentorship and collaborate with engineers and product managers on personalized recommendations, machine learning, and engineering
• In partnership with a product manager and team of engineers, build a stack which supports our next generation recommender services to improve the listening experience for all of Spotify MAU.
• You will support the engineering team in formulating the technical vision and strategy for our voice technology stack
• Grow a highly effective engineering team

Who you are

• You thrive when developing great people and phenomenal products
• You have experience in encouraging a strong engineering culture in an agile environment
• You have previous experience developing production-scale ML systems
• You are either an experienced manager or a senior individual contributor with strong communication skills and leadership experience
• You care about agile software processes, data-driven development, reliability, and responsible experimentation
• You’re familiar with the industry trends and keep up with the latest product offerings, and can understand trade-offs of existing solutions
• Domain expertise in the music domain is a plus

Where you'll be

• Where in the world? For this role, it can be in Boston, New York, or Stockholm with frequent collaboration with teams in London, and other European and US locations.
• Working hours? We operate within the Eastern US and Central European time zones for collaboration and ask that all be located in that time zone.
