Job Overview
This person will lead several high-impact research projects on neurological diseases that can positively change our understanding of them or how we care for patients affected by them. Specifically, design studies in line with the scope of our most important study, “The Cincinnati Cohort Biomarker Program,” which aims to repurpose in-market medications to delay, stop or revert the progression of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease, among others. This person will also be in charge of developing other studies, from project design to manuscript writing and publication, and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of the University of Cincinnati.
Essential Functions
- Design studies to biologically understand the neurodegenerative condition of each study participant and find in-market medications targeting their altered biological processes.
- Analyze collected data and research operations of “The Cincinnati Cohort Biomarker Program” and continuously improve its study procedures to achieve its objectives.
- Establish collaborations with other institutions worldwide in multi-center studies; and look for grants and funding opportunities and apply for them.
- Set up clinical and technical processes to collect biological samples from study patients, verify quality control parameters and analyze test results.
- Perform cross-sectional, longitudinal and survival analysis on big data from electronic health records, genetic tests, quantitative imaging results and technology-derived signals.
- Actively participate in professional scientific societies and in conducting clinical trials sponsored by non-profit foundations and pharmaceutical companies to evaluate novel therapies/medications.
- Maintain and enhance professional expertise by giving presentations at academic activities in the division, such as journal clubs.
- Train junior research staff on research methodologies and good research practices.
Minimum Requirements
Prior to the effective date of the appointment:
- Medical Degree (M.D.) or Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in Neuroscience or Biostatistics or closely related fields.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
