Position Summary:

The Lead, Data Scientist will drive the growth of onboard revenue using data science and data engineering techniques. This involves creating a cohesive strategy for managing the exponentially increasing amount of onboard revenue data and the personnel associated with each area. Along with this involves developing predictive modeling to assist sailing level forecasting and target setting and driving automation across all reports throughout the department. Providing analysis to Executive staff while leading/ participating in special projects across all areas of onboard revenue and hotel operations is also another competency of the role. This role will lead the team's efforts to transition to the new alpha data platform (Databricks), which will eventually serve as the central repository for all company data. This role will facility the new pre-cruise planner pricing automating project.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the team's efforts to transition to the new alpha data platform (Databricks). 
  • Facility the new pre-cruise planner pricing automating project to deliver incremental PCP revenue.   
  • Assists all onboard revenue departments in revenue generation, utilizing a data-driven mindset and implementing a plethora of machine learning and programming methods
  • Assists all onboard revenue departments in revenue generation, utilizing a data-driven mindset and implementing a plethora of machine learning and programming methods
  • Assists with the development of revenue, casino VIP forecasts using benchmarking and other techniques to continually improve the accuracy of forecasts
  • Evaluates current marketing campaigns for effectiveness and recommends new, innovative campaigns to improve revenue
  • Works with Revenue Management to audit casino cabin costs and executes marketing campaigns to utilize stressed inventories
  • Transforms daily/weekly/monthly manual reports to automated versions to gain efficiencies
  • Provides analytical support to grow partnerships and casino representative segments
  • Assists in the development of international strategies to grow onboard revenue in international markets including the UK, Australia and China
  • Works with IT to ensure data integrity of multiple onboard revenue databases 
  • Understands back-end data and the shipboard and shoreside interaction with relevant databases
  • Represents onboard revenue when required specifically with many of the Shared Services departments, to gain support for initiatives
  • Serves as main liaison between Operations, Finance, and Marketing with capital budgeting, forecasting and ad-hoc analysis
  • Performs other duties as required

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Four-year Bachelor's or equivalent (MBA preferred); or three to ten years related financial and business analysis experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Three to five years of work experience in cruise, casino or hospitality industry required. 
  • Candidate must possess strong written and oral communication skills and be able to work effectively with all levels of operational personnel. 
  • Strong programming (SQL) and analytical skills are required.
  • Knowledge of Hyperion BI Suite, Oracle Database (SQL), Python and SAS required
  • Three to five years using statistical and machine learning techniques in Python and/or R. Experience with ML fields, e.g., natural language processing, clustering, regression, networks, optimization methods, and graph theory.
  • Able to analyze extensive and complex ranges of data, information, processes and, system solutions to produce effective and efficient business solutions
  • Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Able to manage multiple small and large projects that run in tandem
  • Able to communicate in a flexible manner to ensure understanding across all levels of organization
  • Understanding of the business in order to validate findings and conclusions and ensure data integrity and accuracy at all times
  • Facilitate meetings and present solutions to issues with groups while dealing with variety of variables in situations where no standardization exists.
  • Understanding of database design and information systems, structure, functions and processes, and experience with database tools
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize accordingly
  • Ability to articulate to operational team requests for information as well as key findings
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, as well as common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to respond to inquiries from other departments, customers, or members of the business community Leadership skills to proactively institute financial discipline.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment and manage multiple projects and priorities. 
  • This position requires travel up to 10% of total time working onboard to support and improve shipboard operations
  • Physical Demands:
  • Weekend ship visits and overnight domestic/international travel may be required.
