Job Description

The Data Operations Specialist orchestrates the complex data supply chain by which Experian collects and compiles the sources of data that drive our products and solutions. They have a deep understanding of the details of our data and products to ensure that our data assets are clean, enhanced, organized and ready to deliver.

Data Operations Specialists design and implement our data ingestion pipelines and drive improvements to quality while adhering to standard processes and procedures.

They may work with third-party vendors or contributors of data, and consult with data acquisition specialists or internal sales operations teams to understand data issues and escalate exceptions with a focus on maintaining a seamless process flow.

This “data guru” provides expertise in analyzing, trouble shooting and changing rules/processes to ensure efficient delivery of data content to further stages in Experian’s proprietary, value-added solutions.

The Data Operations Specialist must maintain expertise in all areas of processing and our data lifecycle and utilize their analytical expertise to measure, monitor and optimize the data-to-file processes across the organization.

The ideal candidate consults with and mentors junior team members on most efficient processing techniques and best auditing methods; acts as an escalation point for less experienced associates; submits jobs and provides workflow management; utilizes transfer mechanisms to move data to appropriate platforms; tracks data movement through the pipelines, ensures compliance with established procedures, project requirements and service level agreements through testing and audits; provides support and communication to other teams and/or clients based on knowledge of data and/or processes.

The Data Operations Specialist has an innate curiosity and desire to understand the data and maintains a fluency in emerging tools and technologies that will serve that need to understand as well as gain competitive advantage, operational efficiency, or revenue enhancement.

The ideal candidate must have related software industry data management & operations experience demonstrating excellent organizational, communication and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Initiate and execute complex operational workstreams intended to collect, cleanse, organize and store Experian’s supplier data within our information environment with highest integrity and efficiency possible.  Verifies input/output counts, monitors data processing jobs across platforms and audits/verifies the results based on historical trends.  Accountable for ownership of on-time input and output delivery, including taking initiative to monitor after hours. Accountable to manage their own time in order to meet deadlines, including taking Initiative to monitor work after hours.
  2. Researches, troubleshoots and takes action regarding data or processing issues according to supplier, product or third-party vendor specifications.  This includes advising internal teams and stakeholders on necessary solution changes or fixes to implement as well as the actual work to implement/fix.
  3. Document processes & procedures.  Maintain policies and procedures to ensure conformance to all corporate and BIS-local requirements. Also, help develop and enforce standards to ensure product-ready data integrity in business applications.
  4. Help manage and support acquisition and integration of new data content into BIS’  data architecture, data model, business processes, and business model.
  5. Set-up and build, implement/test, data-to-file processing flows including adhoc, new-build and more complex flows involving ETL components.  Evaluate and identify where system enhancements are required, performing impact analysis and preparing Level-of-Effort forecasts.

  • Data Quality Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Understands the interaction between data flows and business processes.
  • Understands supplied data components and attributes as well as their business impact.
  • Ability to draw inferences in the context of an overall picture.
  • Ability to determine data patterns and perform root cause analysis and information chain analysis / management.
  • Experience with 3rd party data sources and vendor services helpful.

Technical Skills:

  • Data storage, integration, ETL design and build skills using tools such as IBM Infosphere, Informatica, Pentaho, Talend, DB2, Hadoop.
  • Planning and collaboration skills using tools such as Atlassian Confluence, Trello, Jira, Cisco Webex.
  • Automation skills using tools such as Jenkins, Chef, Puppet, Kubernetes/Docker, JSP.
  • Basic development/scripting skills using such languages as Java. Python, AngularJS, Anaconda, “R”
  • Testing skills using tools such as Selenium with Robot Framework, IBM Rational Tester, Tricentis Tosca, Unified Functional Test (UFT).
  • Source Code Management skills using tools such as Clearcase, Endevor, Atlassian Bitbucket, GitHub.
  • Cross-platform job/application monitoring skills using tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, CA-APM, IBM-APM.
  • Data manipulation & visualization skills using tools such as Tableau, Alteryx, SAS, Talend, Pentaho, R, Python, SQL, MySQL, NoSQL, JSON, Hive
  • Feedback and issue management skills using tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Service Now.
  • Advanced Excel.
  • Microsoft Office general applications, including Visio.
  • Knowledge of managed file transfer, enterprise file synch-and-share protocols and encryption methods in on-premise, cloud and big data environments is beneficial.

  • Ability to work calmly under pressure.

Experience Required:

Between 2 and 5 years of experience in information technology industry with a focus in data management, data cleanup or similar activities and/or responsibilities.

Education Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
