Job Description

Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced data scientist who will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting various government-released data sources, such as Census, NSSO unit level data, NDSSPI, NAS, and other Government data, as well as data available from other sources like Mobile data and GIS data. The candidate must possess a strong educational background in economics, a deep understanding of economic theory, and a proficiency in statistical and mathematical models for data analysis and prediction/estimations.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Analysis: Utilize government and secondary data sources to conduct in-depth economic analysis, identifying trends, patterns, and insights. Employ statistical software such as Stata or R to process and analyze data effectively.

Economic Modeling: Develop and apply econometric techniques and advanced modeling methods, including time series analysis and panel data analysis, to make data-driven predictions/estimations and recommendations.

Data Quality Assurance: Maintain a keen eye for detail to identify errors or inconsistencies within the data sources and ensure data integrity and accuracy throughout the analysis process.

Economic Theory: Has a strong understanding of microeconomic and macroeconomic theories to contextualize and interpret data effectively, providing a robust foundation for analysis.

Research and Reporting: Conduct in-depth research to generate valuable economic insights. Summarize findings in clear and concise reports or presentations. Effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Education: A Master's degree in economics is the minimum educational requirement.

Statistical Proficiency: Proficiency in using statistical software such as Stata or R/ python, and familiarity with advanced statistical techniques and econometric modeling.

Additional Requirements:

Data Management: Expertise in handling large datasets and databases, including government and secondary data sources.

Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and quality.

Research Skills: Strong research capabilities, including the ability to analyze and interpret complex economic data.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey economic insights to diverse audiences.
