The Bosch Research and Technology Center North America with offices in Sunnyvale, California, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Cambridge, Massachusetts is a part of the global Bosch Group (www.bosch.com), a company with over 70-billion-euro revenue, 400,000 employees worldwide, a very diverse product portfolio, and a history spanning over 125 years. The Research and Technology Center North America (RTC-NA) is dedicated to providing technologies and system solutions for various Bosch business fields, primarily in the field of artificial intelligence (for example, human-assisted AI, natural language processing, robotics, 3D perception, and AI platform), energy technologies, internet technologies, circuit design, semiconductors and wireless, as well as advanced MEMS design.

As a part of the global research, our AI research in Silicon Valley focuses on Foundation Models, Big Data Visual Analytics, Explainable AI (XAI), Natural Language Processing, 3D Perception & Mixed Reality, Cloud Robotics, Data Science, AI Platform, Time-series Analysis. We develop scalable, intelligent, and trustworthy AIoT solutions to enable inspiring UX for Bosch products and services in application areas such as automated driving, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), robotics, smart manufacturing, enterprise AI, health care, smart home and building solutions.

As a part of our global research unit, our Natural Language Processing group is responsible for advancing Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs), for industry applications. Our mission is to develop cutting-edge NLP solutions that drive innovation, solve complex industry problems, and shape the future user experience of Bosch products for both internal and external users in the fields of AI agent, information retrieval, question answering, software engineering assistance, and etc. We work with internal partners at various Bosch business units to transfer our ideas and solutions into future products. We also actively collaborate with leading groups in academia and industry to promote research ideas and publish research findings in internationally renowned conferences and journals, e.g., ACL, EMNLP, ISWC, AAAI, NeurIPS, ICML, ICASSP.

Job Description

  • Drive advanced research on Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Model (LLM) and Foundation Models to address academic and industrial challenges in AI fields.
  • Work with an international team of experts to transfer and apply the Bosch in-house AI innovations and 3rd-party AI solutions to Bosch products and services of information extraction, knowledge-rich assistance, question answering, and information retrieval, etc.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in computer science or engineering
  • 5+ years of research experience in natural language processing, machine learning, and related fields
  • 5+ years of research experiences on large language models, including training, fine-tuning, and prompting.
  • 3+ years experiences in industrial research

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Publication record in top NLP / AI venues (e.g., ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, TACL, AAAI, NIPS, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience on state-of-the-art NLP / AI libraries and toolkits
  • R&D experiences on LLM based agents, task planning / decomposition, and reasoning
  • R&D experiences on retrieval-augmented generation
  • R&D experiences on multi-modal foundation models
  • R&D experiences on low-resource NLP
  • R&D experiences on explainable NLP
  • Hands-on experience on production of NLP systems

Culture and Benefits | Bosch in the USA

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $175,000 - $195,000. Within the range, individual pay is determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to, work experience and job knowledge, complexity of the role, job location, etc. Your Recruiter can share more details about the specific salary range for this position during the interview process.
