Who we are:

Gatik, the leader in autonomous middle mile logistics, delivers goods safely and efficiently using its fleet of light & medium-duty trucks. The company focuses on short-haul, B2B logistics for Fortune 500 customers including Kroger, Walmart, Tyson Foods, Loblaw, Pitney Bowes, Georgia-Pacific, and KBX; enabling them to optimize their hub-and-spoke supply chain operations, enhance service levels and product flow across multiple locations while reducing labor costs and meeting an unprecedented expectation for faster deliveries. Gatik’s Class 3-7 autonomous box trucks are commercially deployed in multiple markets including Texas, Arkansas, and Ontario, Canada.

About the role:

As a Staff Research Engineer specializing in Behavior Prediction, you will play a vital role in developing ML models that accurately predict the behavior of surrounding agents and plan optimal trajectories for our autonomous vehicles. You will work closely with our research and development teams to design, implement, and deploy these models both on-vehicle and within simulation environments for validation.

What you'll do:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement ML models that understand the full scene around our vehicle and forecast the behavior of other agents, including pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles.
  • Develop models that run efficiently on-vehicle to enable real-time behavior prediction and decision-making for autonomous driving systems.
  • Design and develop offline generative models for use within simulation and validation environments, ensuring accuracy and fidelity in representing real-world scenarios.
  • Work with large-scale datasets collected from sensors such as cameras, LiDAR, and radar to extract relevant features and preprocess data for model training.
  • Train ML models using appropriate algorithms and techniques, optimizing performance metrics.
  • Conduct thorough validation and testing of machine-learned models in simulation and real-world environments to ensure robust performance and generalization.
  • Analyze model performance and identify areas for improvement, iterating on design and implementation to enhance prediction accuracy and reliability.
  • Document model architectures, methodologies, and results clearly and concisely. Collaborate effectively with team members to integrate models into the overall autonomous driving system architecture.

What we're looking for:

  • Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field with a focus on machine learning or artificial intelligence.
  • Proven experience in developing SOTA ML models for prediction and behavior planning in autonomous vehicles or related domains.
  • Good programming skills in languages such as Python and/or C++, as well as proficiency in relevant machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, and handling large-scale sensor data.
  • Familiarity with on-vehicle deployment of machine learning models and optimization for real-time execution.
  • Experience with simulation environments for autonomous vehicles, such as CARLA, SUMO, or similar platforms, is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
