Data Science Manager

How You Will Make An ImpactThe data science team at thredUP consists of data analysts, data scientists, and ML engineers who influence outcomes across business domains. As a data science manager, you will partner closely with product stakeholders to identify opportunities and frame algorithmic problems, and empower your team to deliver impactful analyses, algorithms, and data products. You’ll work in cross-functional teams to take critical projects across the finish line, and be a key player in developing technical visions that will accelerate growth, optimize performance, and allow us to scale efficiently. You will be responsible for developing bright individuals and building an amazing team, fostering individual growth through frequent and honest feedback. Along the way, you’ll guide architecture, data models, and engineering best practices that elevate the entire thredUP data community.

In This Role, You'll Get To:

• Hire, teach, amplify, grow, and develop the amazing individuals on your team
• Partner with cross-functional teams to develop and prioritize data science roadmaps and proactively drive projects to completion
• Ask key questions about the product and translate business problems and requirements into data questions
• Lead product decisions informed by data and insights
• Set topline metrics to track progress and design experimentation strategy that allows us to learn fast
• Share your engineering expertise such that your team can experiment faster, deploy more quickly, and build new capabilities from the ground up
• Work cross-functionally to ship data products from inception to production
• Champion our data-driven culture and evangelize best practices within the thredUP community, fostering a healthy and collaborative culture

What We're Looking For:

• Experience leading a team and a passion for helping others do their best work
• Demonstrated ability to create and drive technical and impactful roadmaps, and lead seamless execution of them
• Experience tackling ambiguous data problems
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to synthesize, simplify, and explain complex problems to different types of audiences
• Effective teamwork with engineers, product managers, business stakeholders, finance teams, and executive leadership
• Hands-on data science and machine learning experience solving real-world business problems, and a deep understanding of ML in theory and in production environments
• An innovative mindset, someone inspired to take on new challenges
