Pleo is hiring a Senior Analytics Engineer in our Business Insights Team in the Insights & Acceleration Domain to help take us to the next level!

So, what's Data & Analytics at Pleo like?

The Data & Analytics organisation at Pleo shares a vision to stop the guessing game and unlock growth for Pleo 🔓  This means you’ll be focussing a lot of attention on data culture, strategy and empowerment of our stakeholders and deal with a wide variety of data and insights across Pleo. From the detailed inner workings of the Pleo platform to financial and banking records, human resource information, and everything else needed to fuel Pleo’s decision-making processes in a data-inspired manner.

The  Business Insights Team

At the highest level, the mission of the Business Insights Team is to support senior leadership to take data-inspired actions and drive data literacy within the Finance organisation.

It is the responsibility of the Analytics Engineer in this team to provide scalable and sustainable data models that enable analytics and remove manual work from existing reporting pipelines.

We are strong advocates for diversity at Pleo. The team at Pleo is made of people coming from different backgrounds. A Nordic-born company with women, men, aliens and shooting stars from Slovenians, South Africans to Danes and Canadians, in the office but also remotely throughout the world. We even sometimes travel together to explore!

You will thrive in this role if you

  • Are passionate about using modern data tools like dbt, Looker and Bigquery.
  • Like to be involved in both engineering excellent products and understanding business strategy and logic.
  • Find yourself thinking about how to make processes more efficient, and how to remove technical debt.
  • Enjoy solving complex problems like how to unify complex datasets in an automated, scalable and business-friendly way.
  • Love to grow your own technical skills, and help others do the same.

Your colleagues say you

  • Work in English with ease (it's our company language)
  • Bring a solution-centric mindset
  • Are a continuous learner & systematic thinker
  • Are a person they would also enjoy having a coffee with (virtual or not)

Your Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with data analysts in the Business Insights team but also with Analytics Engineers in the Analytics Empowerment team (centralised data platform team) to design and build scalable, coherent and performant data models in dbt.
  • Collaborate with analysts on translating data analysis requirements and business rules into technical specifications and model design.
  • Ensure that our final marts layer provides business-friendly datasets that power our data exploration tools, and empower end users to answer their own questions.
  • Provide guidance and promote best practices in technical aspects of our data exploration tools, for example best practices around SQL in DBT.
  • Creating processes and guidance to make sure our data models are well tested and documented so that the resulting datasets are clean, accurate and easily consumable.
  • Align model design across teams and domains to build models that will act as the single source of truth.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to build and maintain tools / frameworks to support how we track and improve data quality, metric definitions and data lineage.
  • Identify technical debt in our analytics and reporting tooling and processes, and make suggestions for improvements.
  • Setting standards and promoting best practices for analytics engineering such as version control, continuous integration, and automated testing.
  • Write high-quality production code with an eye towards performance, scalability and maintainability.

In your first year you will work on:

  • Defining and promoting best practices for data transformations and data model development in dbt.
  • Designing or redesigning data models in dbt to improve performance and usability.
  • Building new automations for manual processes to improve our team efficiency.

Show me the benefits!

  • Your own Pleo card (no more out-of-pocket spending)
  • Ability to work remotely (anywhere between east coast of the Americas to European timezones)...
  • Regular trips to somewhere for team camps. For example Data Camp in July 2022.
  • Investment in learning & developing (just check with your team for what's reasonable, we don't have set budgets)
  • At Pleo, we want everyone to feel valued, and treated like an individual, at work. We want to be as flexible as possible to make sure that you are fully setup to be your best self - and a big part of that is what benefits we offer you. So, we’ve flipped it. Instead of us deciding what benefits work for you, we’re putting the power in your hands to choose benefits for your specific year, situation, or lifestyle.

And here are some other nice gestures that we do

  • Catered lunch in our HQ and London offices when you're here
  • 25 days holidays (annual)
  • Loads of weird and wonderful niche communities to join in the company (we're talking guerrilla gardening, liquids tasting, the Pleo band, learning to code initiatives, beer brewing, skiing, that type of thing)
  • Wild enthusiasm and encouragement from us if you want to host MeetUps, events, etc - we'll help (venue, food etc)

Working at Pleo means you're working on something very exciting: the future of work. Through fintech we've seen a way to impact how people work; we think company spending should be delegated to all employees and teams, that it should be as automated as possible, and that it should drive a culture of responsible spending. This world deserves the best out of trust, autonomy, automation, and empowerment.

Being HQ'd out of Copenhagen means we're inspired by sensible things like a good work-life balance. If you don't work in the office with us we'll help you get up the best remote set up possible.

Sometimes, we write about things we care about
