We are looking for a Data Analyst to join Spotify’s Legal & Internal Audit (“IA”) Systems team within the Financial Engineering mission. The role is based in New York, but may require travel to Stockholm 1-2 times per year.
The Legal & IA Systems team is responsible for driving a variety of initiatives within Spotify’s legal, audit and data privacy landscape. Its work-streams include driving strategic projects and implementing business systems, owning the data strategy for retention requirements, and building analytical reports and workflows to surface insights for the legal team. The Data Analyst will work with the legal and compliance business teams along with product, engineering and data analysis partners throughout Spotify.
Because of the breadth of issues handled by this team, you will have the rare opportunity to dive deeply into data around all corners of the company. Above all, you will be at the nexus of data analysis, science and cutting edge tool sets at one of the most innovative and expansive data companies in the world.
The scope of this role is to leverage Spotify’s data landscape and processes already in place to support ongoing strategies and requirements of the legal team. The role will offer an opportunity for creative storytelling through the analysis and production of complex datasets. If you are passionate about using data to answer challenging questions, and additionally see yourself wearing a data science hat at different times of the day - then this role is for you.
In addition to possessing a solid technical background of their own, the ideal candidate will be a natural communicator who is able to explain sophisticated statistical and analytical frameworks to business and engineering teams in both New York and Stockholm.

What You'll Do:

  • Perform analyses on large sets of data from various sources to build analytical reports and extract insights that will help satisfy a legal data strategy.
  • Collaborate with the team’s Product Manager to prioritize work and develop a data-driven strategy for legal and relevant business teams.
  • Partner with data engineers and scientists to build a scalable and flexible data landscape to respond to the various needs of the legal, compliance and audit business teams.
  • Partner with the legal team to provide timely, appropriate, and accurate responses to data requests from regulators, partners, litigations and policymakers.
  • Immerse yourself in Spotify’s data culture (engineering and data science) to assess emerging technologies and best practices, and their relevance to the team’s overall scope of work.
  • Clearly communicate your work, progress and vision of the data strategy to stakeholders - tailoring communication as appropriate to ensure relevance to the audience.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams of creatives, business owners, product owners, marketers, data scientists, and others across the company who are passionate about Spotify’s success.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Spotify’s legal and compliance landscape, both the current needs and future vision.
  • Take accountability over data integrity.

Who you are:

  • B.A. / B.S. in Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or another quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience. Background in legal matters and consumer technology companies is a plus, but not required. Willingness to learn relevant legal concepts as underpinnings of analysis a must.
  • Experience in managing programs and long term plans and contributing to data strategies.
  • Comfortable with working with data producers across the organization to understand the sources and assumptions on which our data depends.
  • Extensive experience manipulating and analyzing complex data with SQL and other tools, such as Python.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (Big Query) is a plus, but experience with MS Azure or AWS is sufficient.
  • Comfort operating independently in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Experience in collaborating with senior business leaders across multiple time zones.
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to speak tech to a non-tech audience and to translate complex business/legal needs into specifically-defined deliverables.
  • You have inclusive and collaborative working habits.
  • You care about working in a well functioning team.
