We are looking for a data scientist to partner with our Money Movement engineering team to understand and optimize all of the funds handled by Stripe. The Money Movement team is building the platform to abstract the complexity of the global financial system for Stripe’s users. Data Scientists and engineers work closely to ensure that Stripe can move funds safely and efficiently at massive scale.

 

In this role you will have the opportunity to solve complex modeling and optimization problems that are at the heart of Stripe’s business. We’re looking for a data scientist with a strong technical background, interest in learning the nitty details of how money moves around the world, and who can work with technical leaders to design highly efficient financial systems.

 

You will:

  • Build systems to track and monitor Stripe’s cash positions
  • Use machine learning to forecast all financial events within Stripe’s systems
  • Design and simulate liquidity management approaches
  • Optimize our currency portfolio and conversion strategy

 

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • 5+ years experience working with and analyzing large data sets to solve problems 
  • A PhD or MS in a quantitative field (e.g., Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Natural Sciences, Operations Research) 
  • Expert knowledge of a scientific computing language (such as R or Python) and SQL 
  • Strong knowledge of statistics, machine learning and optimization
  • Demonstrated track record of identifying, scoping and leading complex data science projects with cross-functional partners and high business impact 
  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner

 

Nice to haves:

  • Prior finance experience
  • Experience working in a production software environment
