Scope and Impact

The Intelligence Engine is at the heart of our business, giving us the tools to keep our clients ahead of their competition and drive their sporting and commercial success. By developing modelling frameworks and data pipelines, you’ll help shape the fundamentals of our Intelligence Engine and give our clients a best-in-class suite of data science solutions. You’ll also be supporting the rest of the data science team in bringing our sports insights and intelligence to life for our clients by working closely alongside our engineering and consulting teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build rigorous model validation and testing frameworks that help maintain the accuracy and reliability of the Intelligence Engine
  • Structure and evolve data science methods into production-ready services and systems
  • Research and develop new core algorithms that can be utilised in a wide array of data science models and solutions
  • Package core infrastructure to keep our Intelligence Engine fully modularized, as well as developing internal tools to increase our efficiency
  • Collaborate with our engineering team on a wide range of client projects and products

Requirements

Programming and Data science

  • Highly proficient in both R/Python, as well as experience in using SQL, Bash scripting, and automated deployment tools such as Docker/Jenkins
  • Knowledge of, and preferably experience in, the full data science pipeline, from data ingestion, to model development and model deployment
  • Experience in back-testing and evaluating the accuracy/quality of data science models, and knowledgeable on a wide range of model evaluation tools
  • A robust understanding of relational databases and how to construct complex queries effectively

Sports knowledge

  • Interest and passion for sports, and how analytics can play a role in bringing more value to the sporting industry

Communication and teamwork skills

  • Experience in being able to translate complex systems and statistical processes to a non-technical audience
  • Comfortable working as part of an agile team, and confident in taking ownership of certain work streams within projects


Desirable

Programming and Data science

  • An understanding of microservice architecture communication and message brokers
  • A good understanding of APIs, how they work and how to ingest data from them
  • Experience modularizing code and building packages

Sports knowledge

  • Experience in modelling and/or the analysis of sports data

Communication and teamwork skills

  • Experience with working alongside software/data engineers to embed data-science solutions into scalable products
