About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced professional software developer to join Ghost Lab on a full-time or part-time basis (https://ghostlab.sites.northeastern.edu/). Ghost Lab is an innovative lab that engages in the development of social impact games and extended reality (XR), as well as tools for game development. The lab is under the direction of Prof. Casper Harteveld and Prof. Giovanni Troiano and consists of 10+ PhD students and 3 Postdocs.

The primary responsibility at the start of the appointment involves the further development of the StudyCrafter platform (see https://studycrafter.com), a free engine to empower users to create, play, share, and analyze gamified projects. Under the direction of a research team, the developer is tasked in improving the StudyCrafter editor (new features) and the website. Other responsibilities involve supporting other games and extended reality projects, as well as the work by PhD students.

The position is for 1 year which will be renewed contingent on grant funding. While a local developer is preferred, we are open for remote developers. This is a full-time position with potential for other configurations upon request.

Qualifications

Candidates must have at least 3+ years of industry experience in software engineering and development, specifically in games and extended reality (XR). Candidates must have deep knowledge and experience with the Unity game engine and database and web development. Languages used: C#, javascript, python, php, mysql. Experience with data/game analytics, data visualization (d3), APIs, WordPress, and building game engines is preferred, as well as experience with mentoring junior developers/students. For candidates that have at least a master’s degree opportunities exist to teach courses. The duties and responsibilities of the position begin as early as September 2023.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of games and tools as part of Ghost Lab. As stated, the primary responsibility involves the further development of the StudyCrafter platform (https://studycrafter.com). The candidate is expected to work together with PhD students, postdocs, and other personnel that are part of Ghost Lab.
