As a Data Engineer at Moderna, you will play a crucial role in empowering our scientific and operational teams with the data they need to advance our pipeline of mRNA therapies and vaccines. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable and reliable data pipelines, ensuring the integrity and accessibility of data across the organization. Your work will directly contribute to accelerating scientific research and operational excellence, enabling Moderna to continue leading in the biotechnology industry.

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain efficient, reliable, and scalable data pipelines to support the needs of research, clinical, and operational teams.

  • Implement robust data warehousing solutions to facilitate data aggregation, storage, and analysis.

  • Collaborate with data scientists, bioinformaticians, and IT professionals to integrate complex datasets from various sources, ensuring data quality and consistency.

  • Develop and maintain data models and architectures tailored to the unique needs of mRNA technology development and production.

  • Employ best practices in data management, including data security, privacy, and compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Monitor data pipeline performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement optimizations to ensure high availability and performance.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field.

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer, with a strong background in designing and maintaining large-scale data systems.

  • Expertise in SQL and experience with NoSQL databases, as well as familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP).

  • Proficient in programming languages relevant to data engineering (e.g., Python, Scala).

  • Knowledge of data integration, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.

  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is highly desirable.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical details into clear, actionable insights.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Prior experience in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals is a plus, but not required.

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with AI/ML pipelines in a production environment will be considered a strong plus.
