You will be part of the Energy Analytics team, a powerhouse of analytical capabilities.  Our team supports utilities and government agencies modernize their grid as well as design, boost and implement their Flexible Load Management (FLM) programs to meet the demands of the future. ICF has over 50 years of experience advising utilities on a variety of areas, including integrated resource planning, FLM, utility customer programs, environmental strategies, and a host of other issues. The energy analytics team is a leader in US Utility Distributed Energy Resource (DER) space. Our ability to connect the implementation experience and deep domain expertise with advanced analytics, allows us to help utilities plan, design and implement best-in-class FLM programs.

Your role will be that of a individual contributor with strong subject matter expertise in one or more of the various FLM practice areas and proven business development skills to maintain and build client relations. You’ll manage the continued development of ICF’s energy analytics to help deliver innovative solutions to our clients’ planning and operational challenges, while strategically advancing our sales and thought leadership efforts. As a senior consultant, you will be working with all levels of staff, and working on the technical execution of long-term planning, program design, and implementation support projects with minimal supervision. This role will also involve the development of the offerings, tools, and models that underpin the analytic aspects of ICF’s FLM consulting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support project management – assist project managers with project teams to perform FLM analyses (consulting assignments, implementation projects and analytical support), including scheduling project milestones, drafting the deliverables and managing the budget.

  • Client engagement and business development - manage and grow client relationships and support the business development efforts with market research and proposal development.

  • Work in cross-functional teams to build and improve processes and stay abreast of the industry landscape.

  • Contribute to the development of internal- and external-facing tools and workflows that enable the strategic decision-making process for developing and designing innovative FLM program strategies and roadmaps.

  • Establish yourself as a thought leader through external publications and presentations that showcase ICF’s technical leadership.

  • Mentor, coach and train junior staff on various topics within the FLM domain

  • Conduct novel energy efficiency and decarbonization analyses based on large scale Building Energy Management frameworks, often leveraging existing work such as NREL’s ResStock and ComStock and building upon it.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Electrical Engineering, Building Science, Energy Management, Energy Policy and Planning, or related subjects.

  • 5+ years of related energy industry experience, including experience in FLM practice areas or technologies, such as demand response, energy efficiency, solar and storage

  • Knowledge of US energy policy and regulation especially related to FLM. Experience in regulatory and public stakeholder processes would be highly valued.

  • Demonstrated experience assisting managers with coordinating and managing large, complex projects and multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Experience with Building Energy Modeling, industrial or academic

  • Experience with energy-saving evaluation, measurement and verification methods and protocols (e.g., IPMVP); and related financial analysis tools.

  • Experience in open-source data science languages, including Python
