It is an exciting time at Mayo Clinic, as we are building the most trusted generative AI and LLM-based solutions to empower our staff, improve our practice and transform healthcare. To accelerate our generative AI strategy, we are forming a cross functional team of technical experts. This team will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Generative AI Program’s Request for Application (RFA) Process, its entrants and winners
  • Providing temporary tiger-team efforts to accelerate key initiatives
  • Expanding the organization’s understanding of LLM technology through:
    • Development of best practices, knowledge assets, and code examples to accelerate the efforts of others
    • Execution of technical proofs of concept and exploration
  • Providing consultations, presentations, and sharing of knowledge across Mayo Clinic to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Providing guidance across the Generative AI program workstreams as technical experts

We are seeking a driven and experienced Manager to lead our ML Ops resources supporting a suite of generative AI foundation models. 

This position will oversee a team of data and ML engineers responsible for building and maintaining a robust ML Ops infrastructure. 
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of ML Ops principles, experience managing technical teams, and a passion for applying AI to solve real-world problems in healthcare.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of ML engineers and data engineers responsible for building and maintaining the ML Ops infrastructure and pipelines for generative AI projects.
  • Collaborate with the Technology and Data Science Leaders to develop and implement an effective ML Ops strategy.
  • Design and implement automated pipelines for data ingestion, model training, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Ensure efficient and scalable deployment of generative AI models into production.
  • Oversee the optimization of ML Ops processes to ensure high performance and accuracy.
  • Manage cloud infrastructure resources utilized for ML workloads.
  • Recruit, develop, and mentor a high-performing ML Ops team.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to ML Ops activities.
  • Identify and implement new tools and technologies to enhance the ML Ops platform.
  • Partner with data scientists and software engineers to bridge the gap between development and operations.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the latest advancements in ML Ops best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to ensure alignment on technical goals and priorities.

100% remote role; the employee must live in the U.S.  Mayo Clinic will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position including F1 OPT STEM.

 

Bachelor's degree with 6 years of experience, which includes 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience; Or, Associated Degree with 8 years of experience, which includes 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience and commitment to obtain a Bachelor's degree within 4 years. Experienced with committee- and consensus-managed, physician-led organization. 
Other Qualifications: Requires skill in effective decision making and effective consensus management. Strong understanding of and experience in Technology Management disciplines. Strong understanding of finance, business processes, budgeting and human resources development. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated history of continuing education in personnel and administrative processes. Experience with personnel 
management, resource allocation, coaching and mentoring. 
Master's degree preferred with 4 years of experience. Experience working in healthcare technology. Experience with managing both custom developed and vendor-supplied products and services. Experience in vendor management and negotiations. Some travel may be required in this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in managing and leading technical teams.
  • Experience with MLOps tools and frameworks (e.g., Kubeflow, MLflow, Weights and  Biases,TensorFlow Serving).
  • Experience with data pipelines and data engineering principles.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Passion for the potential of AI to transform healthcare.
