Barbaricum seeks a Data Scientist to provide services to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) program. The Data Scientist will work as part of a team to operationalize OSINT for DHS. This activity will inform and implement national security initiatives through providing comprehensive technology-enabled OSINT-derived indications and warning and expert analysis.

Responsibilities

• Handles raw data (ex. structured, unstructured, and mixed datasets), and analyzes data through the application of various statistical techniques or tools
• Formulates and leads guided, multifaceted analytic studies against large volumes of data
• Interprets and analyzes data using exploratory mathematic and statistical techniques based on the scientific method
• Coordinates research and analytic activities utilizing various data points (unstructured and structured) and employ programming to clean, massage, and organize the data
• Experiments against data points, provide information based on experiment results and provide previously undiscovered solutions to data challenges
• Coordinates with OSINT, GEOINT, SIGINT, and All Source Analysts to build data environments

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of demonstrated Data Science experience
• BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field
• Familiar with programming language such as, but not limited to, Python, R, SAS, SQL, Hive, Pig, and Spark
• Experience exploiting big data, distributed computing, predictive modeling, and automation
• Demonstrated ability to extract meaning from and interpret data using a variety of tools and methods

Desired Qualifications

• Experience working with datasets relevant to Defense, Intelligence, or Homeland Security missions
• Experience modeling geospatial data visually
