Position Summary:
We are seeking a Head of Data Infrastructure to help build our genomic data platform and team. The candidate brings enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, scientific rigor, and a deep-rooted desire to innovate in genomics. This role is based in the vicinity of Cambridge UK and hybrid work arrangements will be considered. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and design our cloud computing infrastructure for data analysis pipelines
• Develop the architecture for our data warehousing and our underlying cloud-based systems
• Provide supervision for ongoing projects, helping insure on-time delivery and problem-solving key issues as they emerge
• Initially, significant hands-on method development
• Recruit and lead small team of bioinformatics and software engineering specialists, build an outputs-focused team culture, define and implement best practices for team collaboration
• Contribute to the overall scientific leadership of the company, with a central role in shaping our data strategy and project/program prioritization, as well as working collaboratively with other functions, most notably our translation team
• Foster collaborations across Flagship Pioneering companies, academia, and CROs

Requirements:

• BSc or MSc in computer science, or equivalent work experience
• 10+ years of experience in cloud-based data infrastructure development, data management, and/or software engineering, in either industry or academic settings
• 3-5+ years of experience leading teams of bioinformaticians and/or software engineers, and setting up best practices for team collaboration, e.g. using agile methods, code collaboration tools
• Experience designing and overseeing the development of cloud-based data management and analysis systems (AWS cloud experience preferred) involving workflow managers such as Nextflow
• Candidates with familiarity with (a) Working with genomics/biology/health datasets, (b) Competency in scripting or programming languages such as R and C++, will be preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work successfully in a matrix environment, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, integrate cross-functional issues and balance competing priorities effectively.
