About the Phoenix Lab

The Phoenix lab is looking to hire a full-time research assistant. The research assistant will participate in everyday laboratory needs and assist in performing routine scientific experiments. Basic lab duties include maintaining inventory and ordering reagents, sterilizing lab material / tools, maintenance and organization of mouse colonies. Experience in lab techniques are a plus, but not required as training will be provided. Routine techniques include sterile cell culture, small animal/mouse handling and injection techniques, molecular biology (i.e. PCR), tissue sectioning and histology. Located in the UC James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, the Phoenix lab studies pediatric brain tumors, which are the lead cause of cancer related deaths in children. The lab investigates the mechanisms responsible for tumor development, and tests promising new therapies that may be translated into clinical trials.

 

Job Overview

The research assistant will be a member of a research group and expected to support multiple research projects, collaboration with team members and help manage common needs.  This individual will have the opportunity to learn cutting-edge technologies and enjoy interactions with a collaborative and diverse team. The UC Academic Health Center and the affiliated Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center provide an outstanding biomedical research community.

 

 

 

Essential Functions

  • Assist with the coordination of research studies in a particular discipline.
  • Make independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training or functional experience.
  • Solve problems using combined research knowledge.
  • Independently works on whole projects/problems.
  • Contribute to the collective team effort.
  • Perform statistical and graphical analysis of data, interpret data and assist in judging validity of data.
  • Analyze research results.
  • Organize data search and analysis procedures.
  • Assist in establishing test controls, criteria and research standards.
  • Assist in the design of complex data processing systems to analyze research data.
  • Accomplish assigned results for project/studies, or for significant aspects of larger, complex assignments.
  • Serve as a seasoned level researcher.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree required in a related field.

Required Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs. 

Additional Qualifications Considered

Bachelor's degree (B.S./B.A.) or equivalent in biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, cancer biology or related field.
