Responsibilities

  • Design and implement strategies to interrogate, model, and control interface interactions among battery components, spanning a variety of battery chemistries and architectures
  • Design and implement multi-modal diagnostics that enable quantitative and interpretable assessments of battery state of health
  • Implement standard, and when warranted develop new, accelerated test protocols to quantify battery cycling lifetime
  • Work with the automation team to establish parallel and rapid-serial operation of batteries and their diagnostic probes to co-optimize data throughput and data quality
  • Work with the machine learning team to build predictive models that incorporate physical, chemical, and electrochemical knowledge of battery structure and operation
  • Design and execute workflows for deep characterization of exemplar batteries to elucidate the chemical underpinnings of failure and/or performance optimization
  • Design data processing, data interpretation, and quality control algorithms and collaborate with the computational team to manage the implementation of these algorithms
  • Analyze, report, and present findings of experiments to the FL97 research team

Qualifications

  • Hands-on and direct experience working with battery assembly and stress testing
  • Experience with processes that give rise to battery failure for a variety of battery architectures
  • Experience with automation of battery testing
  • Experience with multiple operando or in situ battery probes
  • PhD in Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
  • Strong self-starter and independent thinker, with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated industry experience or academic achievement, as evidenced by publications in quality journals
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying technical information in a clear and thorough manner
  • Eager to work with highly skilled and dynamic teams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and technical setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with battery manufacturing processes and formation cycling
  • Experience with models for early failure detection
  • Experience with workflow automation
  • Experience with Multiphysics modelling of battery systems
  • Experience with ML integration in battery workflows
