Black Book, the leading provider of automotive data and analytics solutions, is seeking a Director of Data Science to lead our Data Science team. This role involves working closely with executive team members and product leaders to set the vision, strategy, and roadmap for our data science initiatives. The Director will manage daily operations, prioritize team tasks, and drive innovation and excellence in our products and services. Additionally, the Director of Data Science will focus on enhancing team skills and capabilities to secure our future growth and market leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Inspire: Provide strategic direction, mentorship, and coaching to a high-performing team of data scientists, fostering a collaborative and innovation-driven environment
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with product management, sales, marketing, and other cross-functional teams to deeply understand business requirements and translate them into actionable data-driven insights and recommendations
  • Quality Assurance: Uphold the highest standards of quality, reliability, and scalability in all data science processes, methodologies, and systems, ensuring they meet rigorous performance criteria
  • Best Practices Establishment: Develop and enforce industry-leading best practices and standards for data science, including robust frameworks for data governance, ethical considerations, and security protocols
  • Data-Driven Solutions: Craft and implement a comprehensive data science strategy and roadmap that aligns with the company's overarching goals and objectives. Oversee the development, execution, and refinement of advanced data-driven solutions that deliver significant value to our customers and stakeholders, enhancing their experience and outcomes
  • Continuous Innovation: Remain at the forefront of industry advancements in data science, AI, and machine learning. Proactively identify emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges, leveraging them to drive Black Book's innovation and market leadership 

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree with a strong academic background in statistics (e.g. mathematics, statistics, computer science, data mining, machine learning), PhD preferred 
  • Leadership Abilities: Demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities, outstanding problem-solving and decision-making skills, and the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide teams and stakeholders toward achieving ambitious goals, with at least 5 years of experience specifically dedicated to leading and managing high-performing teams
  • Industry Expertise: Have at least 5 years of experience in the automotive industry, showcasing in-depth knowledge and a strong affinity for the sector's dynamics
  • Technical Proficiency: Exhibit expertise in diverse data science methodologies, including data mining, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, optimization, and simulation, and effectively apply them to solve complex problems. Demonstrate proficiency in a broad array of data science tools and frameworks, such as Python, R, SQL, language models, and synthetic data generation. Additionally, possess familiarity with modern software development practices, including GIT and JIRA
