Senior Data Engineer, Data Engineering

The successful applicant for this position will be joining a global team of engineers responsible for servicing the post trade function.

Role & Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain microservices for position ledgering and management.

• Build and architect the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using big data technologies.

• Continuously identify cost optimisations and functional/non-functional issues through test automation, compute analysis and performance profiling. 

• Understand the data models and end to end data workflows across business systems and teams. This includes but not limited to regulatory reporting and financial ledgering.

• Work in close coordination with upstream and downstream system engineering teams, product teams, and business teams. 

• Help maintain code quality, organization, and best practices.

• Working as part of a Global (Hong Kong, Singapore, USA) team.

Experience & Qualifications

• Computer Science or related degree with 5+ years of experience, preferably in the finance sector.

• Hands-on experience with Python and/or Java.

• Hands-on experience with middleware such as Chronicle Queue, Areron, RabbitMQ or Kafka.

• Hands-on experience working with databases such as Redis, Postgres, MongoDB or BigQuery.

• Familiarity with big data technologies and data lake ecosystems e.g. BigQuery, databricks, snowflake etc.

• Well versed in designing data structures and data/event schemas.

• Proficiency in database design and normalization. 

• Strong SQL skills.

• Strong Excel skills.

• Solid and opinionated knowledge of testing methodologies.

• Solid and opinionated knowledge of coding principles and coding standards.

• Well versed with standard SDLC practices and tooling around build, test, deploy etc.

• Hands on with a strong sense of ownership.

• Ability to operate and thrive in a dynamic startup environment.

• Eligibility to work in Hong Kong.

Bonus Experience

• Hands-on experience working with cloud technologies.

• Familiarity with Airflow, DBT, REST API, Kubernetes, Istio and Docker.

• Experience delivering simple web based UIs to visualize data.

• Experience working with petabyte datasets.

• Financial domain knowledge in particular - derivative products and market data.
