What You’ll Accomplish:

  • Drive the HDL (Hardware Description Language) system design and realisation. 
  • Write the documentation of your circuits and verification tests. 
  • Develop your experience in a broad range of electronics engineering subject areas. 
  • Maintain multidisciplinary collaboration with mechanical engineers, software engineers, and physicists, working towards a common goal. 
  • Play a key role in building control systems for quantum computers. 
  • Maintain UQs’ position of using state-of-the-art electronics solutions. 
  • Help in the planning and scheduling of projects, reporting progress and issues.  
  • Engage with project planning activities, risk management and scheduling requirements.  
  • Help with fast turn-around proof of concepts and feasibility discussions. 
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the firmware and software used to control quantum computers. 

Requirements

The 3 Most Critical Attributes We’ll Use to Compare Candidates 

  1. Excellent knowledge of designing, developing and testing digital logic circuits and systems using hardware description language (HDL) tools. 
  2. Good knowledge of electronics circuit theory, including programming and architecture design skills. 
  3. Familiarity with PCB schematic and layout using CAD tools, good manufacturing process knowledge and excellent verification/debugging skills using electronics test equipment.  

 

Must-have Skills:

  • Minimum 8 years experience in high-performance Electronics Design including Digital, Analog and Embedded. 
  • Experience in HDL design and verification using Verilog, VHDL or SystemVerilog. 
  • Use of spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes and VNA. 
  • Experience with FPGAs and embedded software engineering for real-time systems.  
  • Experience working with suppliers and contractors. 
  • Demonstrate a strong discipline for thorough documentation. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Team Player. 
  • At least 2.1 BEng/BSc Degree in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.

Nice-to-have Skills:

  • A background in one of the following: RF engineering, Research, Metrology or instrumentation. 
  • Understanding of signal integrity, high-speed digital and EMC. 
  • Experience with C and/or scripting languages e.g. Python and Matlab. 
  • Experience of Labview.  
  • Pragmatic approach to decision-making and design choices. 
  • Team and/or project management experience.
