Job Description

The opportunity

The Multi Asset Solutions Team (MAST) manages over $171 billion of multi-manager, multi-strategy portfolios distributed across the Institutional, Retail, Retirement and High Net Worth platforms at Manulife.

The Global Macroeconomic Strategy Team is hiring a Global Macro Strategist. Reporting directly to the Global head of Macro Strategy, this person will help develop views on the economic and capital markets environment that will support investment recommendations within multi-asset solutions (MAST) and Manulife Investment Management (MIM).

While the role’s area of focus will be on the Emerging Markets (Asia), key responsibilities will include helping develop global economic forecasts and generating risk scenarios that will be used for asset class return forecasting. More broadly, the person will support the Macro Strategy team and Chief Economist in enhancing economic and policy views and pushing the team’s economic research agenda forward


Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of global macroeconomic strategy views that directly impact investment decisions and portfolio performance on a wide array of multi-asset investment products as well as Manulife Investment Management’s multiple business lines.
  • Engage with global portfolio management teams on investment themes and ideas; demonstrate interest and development in the integration of macroeconomic strategy into actionable market views.
  • Support senior Macro Strategy and MAST members with macroeconomic and market research, the development of economic forecasts, improvement of models and processes, and managing the group’s extensive chart repository.
  • Support the firm in client facing, thought leadership, and brand building efforts that would   include but are not limited to written pieces, one-on-one and group presentations, and media appearances.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of investment/economics experience
  • Experience in econometric modelling and forecasting
  • Experience in emerging markets
  • Proficiency in Matlab, Python, or other languages an asset
