Who are we looking for?

We're looking for a Technical Director to join our Regulation & Assurance business group with a nationwide focus on technical leadership and business growth in Power Systems Capability and Planning

The successful applicant can be located in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide or Perth.

GHD has global expertise in Power Systems Engineering with significant experience in complex power system modelling for renewable energy projects. Furthermore, we have partnered up with a number of international renewable energy clients in developing cutting edge origination solutions. With GHD's ever-increasing international focus on future energy solutions, we are further expanding our highly regarded teams across Australia by engaging with the top talents in the power systems industry to help us deliver leading-edge solutions to our global client-base.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Leading the activities of the power system capability and planning team within the Regulation and Assurance business group focused on growth and development to the team.
  • Leading a team of advisors and senior advisors to deliver power system planning, systems capability and related regulatory and policy advice
  • Leading power system planning activities including the development of grid strategy, concept solutions for network upgrades and other advisory engagements facilitating the technical delivery of projects.
  • Leading business development activities to achieve revenue and growth targets. 
  • Playing a significant role in the development of the regulation and assurance business, with a priority focus on the power sector in Australia and APAC. 
  • Collaborating with our international community of network planning specialists to deliver value for our clients.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical engineering with a strong knowledge of fundamental power systems analysis concepts.
  • Engaging and motivating people skills backed by strategic problem-solving capabilities
  • Significant experience in power system analysis, preferably gained in Australia
  • A desire to mentor and support our junior engineers
  • Ability to work independently on challenging large-scale projects and a consistent record of successful project delivery
  • Power systems software expertise including PSS/E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory and MATLAB
  • Programming skills in Python
  • Experience in grid forming and virtual grid technologies  
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge of Australian National Electricity Rules and International Standards
  • Experience in load flow, short circuit analysis, dynamic studies and EMTP simulations
  • Effective and proven business development, networking and client relationship management skills.
  • Existing contacts and client relationships underpinned by recognised capability in electricity network planning and analysis.
