Job Description

• Product support through the planning, developing, scheduling and execution of project verification and validation engineering activities of varying scale and complexity.
• Provides technical guidance and direction to design engineers and technicians based on verification and validation expertise.
• Prepares and communicates testing cost estimations for assigned testing.
• Make decisions on types of testing, specifies test procedures, instrumentation and hardware used in the testing of designs.
• Responsible for performing data analysis to support testing conclusions, which are to be documented through engineering reports.


• Core Responsible Areas:
1) Outsourced Braking Performance Testing: Manage the coordination, execution, and results for brake performance testing with external test suppliers. Role will be a liaison between Test Supplier and Volvo.
2) Articulation Testing: Perform suspension articulation testing to evaluate impacts of design and packaging changes to the complete vehicle
3) Vehicle Weight Studies: Perform weight studies on vehicles to measure the impacts of new components to the total system
4) Water Tightness Testing: Evaluate design changes or field issues by testing complete vehicle water tightness testing
5) Misc Vehicle Testing/Measurements: Smaller scale test setups that will require knowledge of basic principals of instrumentation and data collection.
6) Support coordination of other outsourced testing requests

• Support/Exposure Areas:
1) Support system functionality verification testing along side other Test Engineers in the following areas (as necessary, not core responsibilities): Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH), Vehicles Dynamics (Handling, Braking, Ride), Cooling Performance, and Fuel Economy

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar Engineering field
• 1-3 yrs of experience, automotive preferred
• Previous exposure to data acquisition equipment and data processing/analysis
• Great communicator (important for the outsourced coordination aspect of the job to keep everyone informed and aligned)
• Positive attitude and desire to learn and take on new tasks (self-learner)
• Enjoys hand-on work
• Preferred Baja or Formula SAE experience from college
