What you will do
Are you passionate about using machine learning to shape the future of healthcare? We are looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to join our dynamic team! The Decision Sciences team at Amgen plays a pivotal role as a strategic partner to Commercial leadership, offering data-backed insights crucial for driving commercial success.
In this role, you will work closely with data scientists to develop and deploy cutting-edge machine learning algorithms by creating scalable frameworks, state-of-the-art tools, and efficient code. You will assist in the design and architecture of machine learning systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate these solutions into production environments. Your focus will be on ensuring timely delivery and learning new toolsets and coding packages to stay current in the field.
As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will play an active role in the tactical execution of machine learning projects, from ideation and prototyping to deployment and maintenance. You'll stay updated with technological advancements, ensuring our approaches are both innovative and effective. Your technical skills will be crucial in optimizing code for efficiency and scalability, and your ability to communicate complex concepts will help bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders. With a strong understanding of healthcare data, you will help ensure our solutions are impactful and fit for purpose. Other responsibilities will include:
- Execute machine learning models and code, with a keen eye for quality outputs and consistency data.
- Work along the entire lifecycle of cD&A machine learning projects, from ideation and prototyping to deployment and maintenance, ensuring timely and successful delivery of high-impact solutions
- Assist data scientists in developing and implementing advanced machine learning algorithms by providing robust frameworks, tools, and infrastructure support.
- Contribute to the design and architecture of machine learning systems and pipelines, ensuring scalability, robustness, and efficient data processing.
- Optimize code for efficiency and scalability, ensuring modularity and maintainability in machine learning projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software engineers, and product managers, to integrate machine learning solutions into production environments.
- Conduct thorough research and stay current with the latest advancements in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and related technologies to inform and drive innovation within the team.
- Assist in data acquisition and preprocessing strategies, working with data engineers to ensure high-quality data for model training and evaluation.
- Communicate complex technical concepts and results to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding and alignment with business objectives.

What we expect of you
Our ideal candidate is a team player with customer focus. He/she is problem solving and result oriented and has time and process management skills and can compile data.
Proven experience and skills needed:
- Master’s degree
- OR
- Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of machine learning experience.
- University Degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, healthcare or related field.
- Fluency in English, both in written and oral communication.
Preferred Requirements:
- Deep expertise in Python: Extensive experience in writing efficient, readable, and maintainable Python code for machine learning applications.
- Proficiency in PySpark: Strong skills in using PySpark for large-scale data processing and analysis, with the ability to optimize for performance, scalability, and efficiency.
- Familiarity with the Machine Learning Lifecycle: In-depth understanding of the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle, from data acquisition and preprocessing to model deployment and monitoring.
- Experience with Cloud Platforms: Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, and Azure, including their machine learning and data services.
- Knowledge of Version Control Software: Proficiency with version control systems like Git, ensuring collaborative and streamlined development workflows.
- Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to tackle complex technical challenges and contribute to innovative solutions.
- Attention to detail: Keen eye for detail in coding, model evaluation, and data analysis, ensuring the highest quality and accuracy in all deliverables.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Capacity to convey technical concepts to a diverse audience, including non-technical stakeholders.
