Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) is based in Bangalore, India and is engaged in the development and support of advanced aerospace and aviation technologies, products, and services. Boeing Artificial Intelligence (Boeing AI) India is part of Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC), and is focused on AI innovation, and developing & transitioning new AI-based technologies in support of Boeing products and services. We work across the complete product lifecycle of Boeing's commercial aircraft, military aircraft, rotorcraft, space vehicles, UAVs, and advanced vehicle prototypes. We provide innovative support for our current and future products and services, act as global scouts for innovative technologies, and solve our customers' most difficult technology challenges.

The Boeing AI India team has an immediate opening for an Associate Data Scientist. The selected individual will develop next generation AI/ML and engineering data analytics or hybrid (physics & data) methods for Airplane Health Management application. He/She/They will co-lead or participate in projects to support the development of Diagnostics & Prognostics solutions of Aircraft Systems to increase the operational efficiency, reduce maintenance cost of aircraft fleet and simulate aircraft systems & lifecycle scenarios for potential customers. In addition, the candidate will support senior members of the team in developing future vision and direction of Boeing’s Research and Technology development in the related field of Artificial Intelligence, Machin Learning, Simulation & Modelling and their application to Airplane Health Management relevant to Boeing.

This position will be based out of Bangalore, India and will work with other colleagues located in India, United States, and other global locations. This position will report to the Senior Manager – Boeing AI India. This position may require occasional (10%) travel within India and internationally.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Analyze requirements, historical operational data from aircraft fleets, design and prototype innovative solutions to meet diagnostic and prognostic requirements for aircraft sub-systems as per project definition.
  • Implement innovative, nonstandard approaches for anomaly detection, fault isolation and health prediction using physics, probabilistic, and machine learning based approaches in high level software (Python, Matlab/Simulink, etc.)
  • Perform vehicle data acquisition using various internal tools, data pre-processing and generation of advanced features.
  • Support integration of health management solutions in embedded, cloud and aftersales service environment.
  • Developing data visualization technique and implement data dashboards to enable interpretable representation of raw data as well as results of analysis. Programming in languages such Python and R as well as developing applications using tools such as Tableau, Power BI.
  • Working closely & collaboratively with an international team comprising software development and research engineers. Develop and maintaining relationships / partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, and partners to develop collaborative plans and execute on projects.
  • Help in the adoption of new tools and technology, perform Proof-of-concepts, and help engagements implement & take it over.
  • Documenting results of research and development projects and provide inputs for periodic updates to in the form of progress reports, project summaries, and other related documents. Tracking and evaluating performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and project requirements.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Masters (minimum requirement) or PhD (desired) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 4+ years of overall work experience with 2+ years in data analytics and machine learning algorithm development and testing related to failure diagnostics & prognostics or similar domain.
  • Excellent presentation & communication skills: Demonstrate strong written, oral, presentation and interpersonal communication skills. Be fluent in written and spoken English, and familiar with MS Office tools.
  • Strong research background in innovating & developing technologies & solutions thru data science & analytics.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Track record in performing and leading research & development of highly innovative AI-driven solutions for difficult problems.
  • Experience with Predictive Maintenance or Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM)
  • Experience with application of probabilistic modelling, reliability modelling, parameter estimation tools e.g., Kalman Filter or Metaheuristic Algorithms
  • Experience with digital twin, simulation & modelling of aircraft systems
  • Experience of prescriptive analytics or maintenance / logistics / fleet planning optimization
  • Must have programming experience in Python, MATLAB & C++
  • Expertise in building and productizing Machine Learning/Deep Learning models / Health Management related solution.
  • Be a self-starter who is not afraid to pro-actively seek information and direction to successfully complete the statement of work.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work independently with a positive attitude and highest ethics.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours (early or late as needed) to interface with Boeing personnel around the world.

Typical Education & Experience:

  • Masters (minimum requirement) or PhD (desired) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline from a Tier 1/reputed academic institution.
