Position Summary

The Senior Data Analyst performs data analysis and creates interactive data tools, dashboards, reports, extracts, and other sources of business intelligence that drive the Bank’s business operations. This position provides a senior level of business intelligence support for Bank employees and therefore requires a high level of analytical skills and operational knowledge to create and resolve complex reporting requests in addition to excellent communication skills.  

 

The following duties are intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional duties. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Provide a broad spectrum of data analysis services, ranging from research, analytics, business intelligence, report authoring, and consulting within the financial services industry. Leverages industry knowledge, technology, process, and organizational design expertise and financial services best practices to deliver results with the goal of improving profitability, improving efficiency, and maintaining regulatory compliance.
  2. Lead descriptive, diagnostic, and prescriptive data analysis efforts, and identify new techniques for the Data Analytics Department. Mentor Data Analysts in best practices for data analysis.
  3. Create, enhance, and troubleshoot interactive data tools, reports, and dashboards within Qlik Sense, SAP Business Objects, and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) within financial and spatial data, within defined reporting standards.
  4. Develop recommendations for data standards and data stewardship methodologies.
  5. Collaborate across departments with users of varying skill levels and personality types while adhering to business priorities. Analyze business needs for interactive data tools, dashboards, reports, and workflows to support existing and future needs alike.
  6. Maintain advanced skills in SQL and vendor-specific data languages. 
  7. Maintain a high level understanding of bank operations across the entire enterprise.
  8. Perform data duties to identify and resolve data anomalies. Maintain a strong understanding of financial mathematical computations, and stay current on new banking technologies. 
  9. Create data extracts in common formats such as fixed-width and delimited.
  10. Adapt to new and updated programming languages and tools as needed, including vendor-specific analytical functions.
  11. Analyze business needs to ensure data requests are fulfilled with a complete and accurate representation of the data.
  12. Maintain documentation, including documenting procedures and data standards.
  13. Maintain an intermediate understanding of IT infrastructure, such as virtualization and networking.
  14. Provide one-on-one training for business users, following established training procedures.
  15. Maintain security, integrity, and confidentiality of financial and other sensitive data. 
  16. Complete online, written and in-person compliance training within established timeframes.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Computer Science or related field. Education may be substituted with four years of commensurate experience. 

Experience

  • Five years of experience querying and analyzing data, report authoring, and business problems analysis in banking or in the financial sector.
  • Related military education/experience may be used as a substitute for education or work experience.

 

Knowledge & Communication Skills 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and advanced command of the English language and its vocabulary and grammar in order to comprehend, analyze, and effectively communicate business memorandums, technical procedures, and government regulations. 
  • Must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment that requires attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Excellent understanding of data methodologies and how tools convey information to users.
  • Must understand and have the ability to implement applicable compliance requirements.

 

Analytical & Decision Making Skills 

  • Ability to independently analyze, prioritize and resolve issues across the entire enterprise of community banking and home mortgage lending.
  • High levels of analytical, spatial, and mathematical abilities are required in order to determine solutions to varied, difficult and complex problems. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Must be able to multi-task, adapt to changing workloads, and accomplish a high degree of accurate work that adheres to established processes, procedures and regulations. 

 

Computer/Software/Other Equipment Skills 

  • Strong knowledge and proven experience of query and reporting languages, such as SQL.
  • Strong understanding of business intelligence software, such as Qlik Sense, SAP Business Objects, and SSRS. 
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and general computer concepts. 
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel as used to retrieve and analyze data.
  • Proficient with standard office machinery such as; PC (keyboard and ten-key), and telephone.
  • Must be able to navigate through computerized and manual resources in order to identify and resolve problem situations.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 
  • Work is performed in a professional office environment.
