BI Data Model Architect

Role purpose

The Vodafone Italy Business Intelligence and Big Data team is the owner of the Vodafone Italy data stack which includes Business Intelligence and Big Data system. It provides data and services to different stakeholders from predefined reports for business users, to self-service reporting for advanced BI users and analytics platform for data scientists. The platform we manage answers to multiple business needs leveraging on standard BI and ETL tools as well as on modern real time data streaming tools. We follow the E2E lifecycle from engineering to delivery.

The IT Business Intelligence Data Architect is responsible for the design and implementation of data model and data processing pipeline, and works tightly with business end user. You will collaborate with source systems owners, visualization architects to define the best data solution for the company handling terabytes of data every day.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership

• Understand the business context and use case and define the data solution to deliver it. Main stakeholders are in finance operations but it’s not exclusive: we work with the entire company.
• Understand the data, how to collect and transform them inside the BI environment to optimize and extend ETL processes. Design and develop extensions to the data warehouse working on the E2E data pipeline.
• Work with business on key data analysis.
• Govern a team of offshore and/outsourced developers.
• Understand enterprise architecture and enhance BI systems to provide the necessary data in the best way according to the IT strategy and the business needs. 
• Manage the projects within Business Intelligence team to achieve the business requirements within the agreed timelines and high quality.
• Comply with company data governance, data standards and software development methodology in the delivery.
• Provide input to long-range data warehousing plans & designs current ETL systems to be in alignment with the long-range objectives.
• Recommend approaches, lead design and create solid technical solutions for complex business scenarios.

Core competencies, knowledge and experience

• Data modelling (Kimball, 3NF, …)
• SQL and NOSQL database, preferably on distributed systems (BigQuery, Teradata, Cloudera, …)
• Experience in complex data pipelines, batch and streaming (preferable technologies Kafka, Hadoop, SQL, ODI, Microstrategy)
• Experience in data security e privacy pattern
• Foundation of Google Cloud especially BigQuery and Cloud Composer
• Foundation of common programming languages (Java or Python)
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering and/or other STEM degrees
• Working experience in similar roles
• Attitude to plan and organize work to deliver project as agreed
• Great communication skills and stakeholder’s management
• Fluent English (both speaking and writing)
• Knowledge of Cloud Data Architecture for DataWareHousing
• Proactive in the day by day working tasks and attitude in acquiring new skills
