As the Data Modelling Lead (DML) you will get the opportunity to be part of the Data Office Leadership team and will be pivotal in designing global vision and strategy for the Enterprise Data Management roadmap.
 

The opportunity


The role provides leadership, strategy and technical expertise within the Data Modelling pillar of the Enterprise Data Management function, delivering global standards, guidelines and implementation patterns to drive quality, consistency and interoperability of data and the techniques in expressing it.

 

The Data Modelling Lead is responsible for setting strategic direction, and in communicating and reporting on the various programs of work to key business and technical stakeholders, Data Office PMO and aligned working groups and Steering Committees.

 

The individual holding this role will drive high impact and transformational business initiatives that are aligned to priorities through program planning and rigor.
 

Your key responsibilities

 

  • The Data Modelling Lead will be at the forefront in working with the EDM Leads, wider Data Office Leads and our internal clients to understand requirements, synthesize them, and define a roadmap that delivers our strategic ambition.
  • Lead in the alignment and education of how stakeholders across EY define, understand and think about data, bringing everyone on a journey of consistency, standardization and agreed meaning.
  • Lead in gaining widespread agreement of data entities and terms at contextual and conceptual levels, recognizing that collaboration with broad and agreed meaning of key terms is more important than accurate detailed representation of many terms, aligning a practical approach to the maturity of EY.
  • Lead in the definition of meaning and structure of EY data to enable accurate planning of data change and improvement to support business needs.
  • Lead in the structured analysis of business data requirements, translating these into conceptual and logical data models representing business concepts and functional requirements in collaboration with business analysts, subject matter experts and product owners.
  • Review, collate and make discoverable data models of internal platforms and systems to increase awareness of variations in standards, whilst highlighting opportunities for consistency and interoperability.
  • Evangelise and communicate the benefits of data modelling across EY influencing its use and mentor/upskill other teams and team members in data modelling.
  • Create, maintain and make explicit organizational knowledge about data and the systems it moves through various data landscape assessments.
  • Create, maintain and make explicit mappings between different levels of model abstraction as well as actively contributing to the design and integration of data into other architectural domains.
  • Oversee, maintain and lead in the development of data landscape, conceptual, logical, taxonomy and ontology data models across EY.
  • Lead in the procurement, implementation and integration of a data modelling tool, or tools, and how it integrates with other architecture tools.
  • Ensure appropriate classification of data working closely with data privacy, protection and security teams.
  • Facilitate and promote the re-use of data by providing users access to data model repositories and assisting users as to how it is organized and how it can be used.
  • Build data modelling capabilities including but not limited to standards, versioning, review, assurance, templates, artefacts etc.
  • Become an active participant and contributor to other data disciplines as needed e.g. data governance, data quality, metadata management, and standards.
     

Skills and attributes for success


Having both a theoretical background in a variety of modelling techniques and approaches, and practical experience in driving design, governance, compliance and physical implementation and optimisation of data models is a key requirement.
 

To qualify for the role you must have 

 

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in domain, conceptual, logical and physical data modelling for enterprise-scale systems, preferably within a global, corporate environment
  • 3+ years of experience in data and metadata management, data governance and data supply chain
  • Extensive experience and expertise in various data modelling approaches, for example relational, document, dimensional, taxonomy, ontology \ graph
  • Exposure to and understanding of best practices in various Data Modelling and Data Architecture tools, for example Sparx Enterprise Architect, Erwin, ERStudio
  • Proven track record in delivery of scalable, well documented models in production on-time, in-budget and meeting or exceeding SLAs
     

Ideally, you’ll also have

 

  • Combination of deep technical knowledge and customer-focused mindset
  • Strong understanding of the firm’s business, organizational structure and operations and leverage it to effectively identify opportunities to support the firm’s strategy and key initiatives.
  • Ability to direct a team and create an environment which supports generating and sharing of creative ideas and solutions.
  • Understanding of and desire to strive for technical excellence.
  • Strong project management, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to identify, influence and leverage internal subject matter resources.
  • Experience with scrum and other agile development methods
  • Experience in successfully supporting large complex projects.
  • Strong relationship and project management with execution discipline skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to display a range of communication approaches for diverse community needs
