Job Description

Future products from Bosch are connected and learn during operation. Especially for dynamic systems interacting with each other new challenges arise for developing as well as safeguarding such functionalities throughout the entire product life cycle. By combining machine learning with control theory and computer science we develop new approaches to tackle these challenges.

  • You address technical challenges by analyzing, modelling and simulating dynamic systems (e.g. manipulators, mobile robots, automated driving, construction machines) and develop data-driven approaches to solving complex reinforcement learning, control as well as optimization tasks.
  • The usage of advanced robust nonlinear (geometric) control methods for control as well as optimization and the implementation of them (and/or state estimators) for mechatronic/robotic systems up to the order of 1kHz sampling rates is also part of your work.
  • Furthermore, you supplement control systems, safety mechanisms and hierarchical trajectory planning with learning methods.
  • Finally, you maintain close contact with the customer, consider product-specific requirements and prepare solution approaches as well as minimum viable software products in a target-audience-oriented manner.

Qualifications

  • Education: excellent PhD in AI, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Cybernetics
  • Experience and Knowledge: sound knowledge of reinforcement learning and advanced control theory, experience with learning methods based on physical and data-based models, practiced use of modern software tools as well as knowledge of performance oriented high-level languages such as modern C++, Rust, Python or similar
  • Personality and Working Practice: you like to show initiative and approach your tasks in a methodical and structured way; you always keep an eye on quality and work in a solution-oriented manner; you are aware of your responsibilities
  • Enthusiasm: you are enthusiastic about technical challenges; you like to develop solutions in interdisciplinary, diverse teams and implement them up to a proof of concept; you are interested in the numerics of optimization and learning methods
