Purpose:

The purpose of the Senior Director – Statistical Programming role is to define, staff and lead a statistical analysis function to provide administrative direction, leadership, process expertise and influence to members of the broader Data & Analytics organization.  The Senior Director is primarily responsible for on-time and high quality Portfolio deliverables, appropriate staffing, budget and resource management, asset protection, coaching and mentoring, staff development, performance management, project planning/management, knowledge sharing, regulatory compliance, strategy implementation and execution, and process improvements. The Director will also be accountable for developing the  statistical and analytical capabilities at LCCI supporting and or leading implementation of end-to-end clinical data flow , next generation drug development, automation and computing strategy. This leader will contribute to establishing a long-term competitive advantage with the D&A function by recruiting and developing the top talent, evolving sourcing strategy and increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of the LCCI statistics and data analysis team.

Portfolio Delivery & Strategy

  • Develop comprehensive understanding of the Lilly’s Therapeutic areas, Establish and lead a cross-functional team, be a scientific thought leader for the group to enable effective and efficient delivery of high-quality clinical outcomes with aggressive metrics.
  • Effectively and efficiently deliver the business unit portfolio with quality, on-time
  • Participate in strategy development and monitor metrics for on-time delivery of statistical support
  • Assess demand for resources, prioritize work, and resolve issues related to scope of work
  • Coordinate resource allocation and tracking for internal and outsourced projects
  • Communicate and resolve issues related to statistics with appropriate level of customer team personnel
  • Partner  with Global Data, Analytics and Reporting Directors in driving project decisions related to clinical data execution options, including integrated functional sourcing.
  • Ensure strong study level programming is consistent with study design and analyses needs.
  • Partner closely with other development and administrative functions to effectively plan, forecast, and manage the resources required to deliver all sanctioned projects
  • Drive efficiency and continuous improvement in the Data & Analytics organization and, as appropriate, cross-functionally to support therapeutic area and Business Unit aligned deliverables
  • Develop deep Therapeutic area expertise within LCCI teams

Statistical and analytical Capabilities Development

  • Establish deep technical capabilities at LCCI with supervision of direct reports and a total staff comprised of diverse skill set accountable for hands-on end-to-end data management activities
  • Develop strategies and build, capabilities and expertise within the team catering to next generation computational capabilities (ability to program in multiple languages (SAS, R etc.)
  • Understand and collaborate with global leaders in the implementation of CDISC data/analysis standard capabilities to ensure consistency and traceability from data collection to reporting

Technology Capabilities Development

  • Use industry knowledge, industry network and technology knowledge to stay current with respect to the rapidly changing ecosystem of tools/technology to set up data lakes, data clouds, and enable programs/algorithms to automate data cleaning, and SDTM creation etc. and end-to-end data flow
  • Be on the fore front to evaluate and adopt novel software/tools and evolving technologies that support and accelerate our strategy
  • Build internal tools and capabilities to help Lilly become the industry leader in end-to-end data flow to enable seamless reliable data flow and analytics
  • Drive innovation and science into the organization by identifying the right talent and technology opportunities to standardize/automate processes to free up time for more innovative work

End to End Dataflow Transformation Capabilities

  • Use deep technical understanding of statistical analysis methods and processes to enable speedy delivery of reliable data and analytics for decision making
  • Transform end to end dataflow to develop next-generation capabilities and ensure continuous improvement
  • Implement and execute data & analytics strategy (process, technology needs, quality standards, automation, external partnerships)
  • Initiate and drive data and analytics programs/initiatives critical to productivity with high quality
  • Develop and implement a strategy for continuously exploring talent at LCCI, and integrate and leverage LCCI capabilities to drive global transformation

Enterprise Leadership

  • Within functional and cross-functional teams, exhibit strong technical know-how, business acumen, strong problem-solving skills and agility to adjust to changing business priorities and needs
  • Represent the Data & Analytics organization at appropriate internal and external venues to demonstrate the leadership
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements, particularly those related to the US, EU, Japan, and China, and be connected externally to be considered an external thought leader
  • Be influential as an external thought leader in the area of data and analytics by being highly connected and driving the changes at the industry level through organizations such as PhUSE, CONSPIC, CDISC etc.
  • Accountable for fiscal responsibility of clinical data and analytics plans and contracts
  • Ensure that activities are performed according to established guidelines, best practices, and in compliance with all laws and regulations
  • Drive continuous improvement of key performance metrics
  • Drive shared learning and process expertise between teams within the organization

People Management and Development

  • Provide technical leadership in developing future data and analytics /statistics leaders
  • Provide leadership in recruiting, coaching and mentoring LCCI talent and integrating them into global teams
  • Recruit, develop, and retain a scientific and operationally capable workforce skilled and knowledgeable in Data & Analytics
  • Effectively create and manage an agile organization that continuously meets the needs of a changing portfolio
  • Build an organizational culture that fosters inclusion and innovation.
  • Develop staff who demonstrate expertise in drug development, therapeutic area science, project management and cross-functional leadership
  • Develop an organizational talent base that demonstrates judgment-based decision making, and provides leadership in clinical delivery

Minimum Qualification Requirements:  

  • Masters or Ph.D. in a scientific / quantitative discipline
  • Minimum of 15 years of industry experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of previous successful supervisory and leadership experience
  • Broad knowledge of the drug development process which includes industry requirements, quality expectations, and practices.
