CSIRO Publishing is an editorially independent science and technology publisher of books, journals and magazines with a strong emphasis on digital publishing. It also offers writing workshops to help scientists develop their skills in this area. 


This role is an exciting newly created position that will be instrumental in contributing to overarching business unit objectives by delivering data insights that drive strategic decisions in the Journals Publishing program.
In this role, you will collate data on KPIs that measure journal performance and build dashboards that visualise those data to guide the actions of the team. With strong analytical skills and a focus on business intelligence, you will create actionable insights to enable improvement of the existing business, identification of new opportunities, with a focus on providing marketing analysis to generate new sales and marketing leads, and development of new products and services.

Your duties will include:

  • Evaluating new opportunities for journals by undertaking bibliometric analyses and research.
  • Preparing annual journal reports and other ad hoc reports, to implement data-driven editorial strategies.
  • Working with business leaders and stakeholders to define a problem or business needs.
  • Building analytical data, models, reports and identifying trends and insights that contribute to business strategy and journal performance.
  • Conducting market segment and market gap analyses.
  • Conducting competitor analyses.
  • Preparing and presenting data in such a way that it tells a compelling story and is visually easy to understand. 
  • Creating dashboards which visualise KPI data in an easy-to-understand form.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensuring consistent use of data systems.
  • Undertaking other ad hoc analytic tasks as directed by business leaders.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Location: Melbourne, Sydney or Adelaide preferred, other cities may be considered

Salary: AU$93,267 - AU$105,517 plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

 

Essential

  • Deep experience in STM journal publishing and familiarity with Open Access business models.
  • Experience in bibliometric analysis and with key databases such as Web of Science, Dimensions, Scopus.
  • Ability to gather, clean and analyse large data sets and make suggestions and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated skills in data modelling and data visualisation from raw data, including the development of user-friendly dashboards.
  • Advanced Excel skills including formula construction, add-ins and VBA.
  • Commercial focus, able to prioritise and work to deadlines.
  • Confidence in presenting findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to be highly organised, results orientated, and performance driven
  • The ability to think creatively and work collaboratively with teams to solve business challenges.

 

Desirable

  • Experience with Google Analytics. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deliver clear reports, and presentations.
