Acentra seeks a Sr. Machine Learning Engineer to join our growing team.
Job Summary:
Work at the intersection of data science and software engineering, building, deploying, and optimizing machine learning (ML) models and pipelines, with a strong emphasis on large language models (LLMs), generative AI (GenAI), and natural language processing (NLP). Will help improve patient outcomes and drive innovation and efficiency in healthcare. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of successfully deploying machine learning models, LLM based solutions, understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), proficiency in continuous integration and continuous development (CICD) pipelines, experience with MLOps, and proven experience mentoring junior level engineers.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and implement ML models and algorithms to solve healthcare-related problems, such as disease prediction, patient risk stratification, clinical decision support, and personalized medicine
- Explore and implement state-of-the-art ML techniques, including supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, and NLP
- Develop and implement data cleaning, feature engineering, and data augmentation techniques to improve model performance and generalizability
- Evaluate and validate ML models using appropriate metrics and methodologies, ensuring robustness, accuracy, and reliability
- Interpret and communicate model results to domain experts and stakeholders, providing actionable insights and recommendations
- Optimize models for performance, scalability, and real-time predictions, considering computational constraints and regulatory requirements
- Design and develop innovative solutions using LLMs and foundation models to solve business problems and create operational efficiencies
- Lead the AI and ML development process and oversee CICD pipelines
- Document code, methodologies, and experimental results to ensure reproducibility and knowledge sharing
- Train junior level engineers and serve as a mentor for learning new technologies, best practices, and company culture
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, clinicians, researchers, and product managers, to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in ML, AI, LLMs, healthcare informatics, and regulatory landscape to inform decision-making and drive innovation

Compensation
The pay rate for this position is $115-140K
“Based on our compensation philosophy, an applicant’s placement in the pay range will depend on various considerations, such as years of applicable experience and skill level.”
Requirements
- Master’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience as a ML Engineer with a focus on healthcare projects
- 5+ years of experience with object-oriented scripting languages, such as Python or R and developing ML models and NLP techniques, data preprocessing and feature engineering
- 2+ years of experience with LLMs and GenAI
- 3+ years of cloud computing experience using Azure and/or Amazon Web Services (AWS) for testing, deploying, and managing ML and AI systems
- Proven experience with successfully deploying solutions using LLMs and foundation models
- Proven experience with GenAI techniques such as variational autoencoders (VAEs), generative adversarial networks (GANs) and transformer-based models
- Proven experience successfully developing and deploying ML algorithms, statistical analysis, and data mining techniques
- Proven experience mentoring ML Engineers and colleagues
- Familiarity with healthcare data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR), electronic health records (EHR), medical imaging formats (DICOM), and relevant healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA) is highly desirable
- Proficiency in using data manipulation and analysis tools, such as SQL, Pandas, and NumPy
