Do you enjoy working closely with stakeholders and engineering teams to enable the creation of data products that help drive critical business insights and strategic value? You can achieve this while working in the fast-paced, competitive, customer-focused, and data-rich world of online travel!

Expedia Group is looking for a smart, consultative, passionate, data & tech savvy individual to form a vital part of Expedia Data Product Engineering Team. Your role as Product Manager will involve implementing, improving and evangelizing insights about Expedia's Supply Partners, Travelers, and the cross-section in-between those. As a data product specialist who is technically savvy, you will partner with internal customers to understand their needs and help bring disparate datasets together to make it as easy as possible for users to find insights in our clickstream data.

What you'll do:

  • Product management – Implement and improve our tooling while working closely with our internal partners

  • Strategy – Translate the business's goals into technical requirements and ensure we're creating our data products based on the highest value use cases

  • Data quality – Audit and review implementation to flag tracking issues which could lead to the wrong business decision

  • Support – Act as an internal consultant, providing support across the organization through being a product SM, crafting easy to understand internal documentation, and establishing a training program

  • Competitive intelligence – Follow new technologies, compare with existing products and provide long-term recommendations

  • • Organizes the strategic vision into key themes that solve for both short-term and long–term business & customer requirements
    • Takes a lead role in detailing a strategic plan to achieve key themes and milestones, using a compelling narrative to “tell the story” of the roadmap
    • Facilitates tradeoff decisions with engineering teams to ensure a financially viable product that solves for customer need
    • Facilitates integration of AI/ML into product functionality, leveraging an understanding of model development processes (data collection and processing, model training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring)
    • Leverages understanding of technical architecture to ensure decisions meet product requirements and adjusts designs to account for dependent systems
    • Applies understanding of EG's structure and key players to identify potential product strategy dependencies
    • Balances short-term and long-term business considerations with product decisions and is able to partner with finance to set incremental revenue targets
    • Drives business innovation within the product portfolio
    • References detailed market research, including customer segmentation, market sizing, and competitive analyses, as relevant to the product
    • Clearly defines the product’s market value proposition through competitive analysis and/or understanding of customer pain points
    • Develops testable hypotheses that relate industry and market trends to product performance
    • Identifies friction within the customer journey and recommends customer-centric experience solutions and features to address
    • Facilitates alignment between engineering and design teams by ensuring product goals are clearly articulated and visually represented
    • Creates product experiments and interprets results in partnership with UX Designers
    • Defines new metrics and new data sources to support continuous product improvement; drives monthly metrics reviews
    • Independently designs product experiments, gathers and analyzes product data, draws insights, and makes informed product decisions; requests support from Data Analytics teams as necessary to support decision-making
    • Builds effective product metric dashboards tailored to audience need that enable ongoing cross-functional decision-making and are useful for metric reviews
    • Effectively prioritizes initiatives & features based on a comprehensive understanding of business strategy & market dynamics while leveraging a data-informed approach using pre-defined criteria
    • Owns product requirements documentation leveraging EG standard toolkit and guides development of detailed user stories
    • Collaborates to develop the engineering task breakdown of user stories to meet business and customer need; identifies and manages key dependencies
    • Develops ability to influence without authority and to manage expectations; earns trust and credibility with peer leaders
    • Encourages the team to achieve operational excellence by serving as an inspirational & motivational force
    • Effectively communicates and influences up and down within the organization; uses analysis and team work to craft a relevant story that is meaningful to the audience
    • A proven track record of clearly and persuasively articulating product concepts, strategies, and decisions to cross-functional teams and customers

Who you are:

  • Experience in a Data Product Management position

  • High level of proficiency creating technical data product requirements and making strategic decisions on which products capabilities should be built within

  • Good understanding of data fundamentals, including the creation and consumption of data products: JSON, Hive, API, Schema design & management

  • Proficient manipulating large dataset using SQL queries and answering business questions about your data

  • Experience working in Agile SDLC environments

  • A passion for data, analytics, e-commerce, online marketing and travel

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a global and matrixed environment

  • Direct and transparent approach to communication

  • Naturally curious mind and appetite for creative and inventive problem solving

  • Attention and appreciation for detail

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce professional technical specifications and documentation

  • Love contributing knowledge to our analytics community

  • Bachelor's or Master's equivalent experience with 5+ years for Bachelor's and 3+ years experience with Master's
