The position.

We believe a large part of building an effective insurance company can be solved with a principled quantitative framework. We are committed to the rigorous development and effective deployment of modern machine learning methods to problems in the insurance industry.

We are looking for a Data Analyst, Forecasting to join our Data Science Forecasting team. As part of this team, you will help build the bridge between data science models and the financial forecasting process. In this role, you will use modern quantitative methods and best practices for deploying robust production models to promote mutual understanding between teams within Root involved in our forecasting process. You will work closely with Data Scientists and members of the Finance team to understand the detailed performance of our business.  

The ideal candidate will have deep analytical and business acumen, with strong programming skills and high quantitative aptitude. This role will report to the Head of Data Science Forecasting. 

Root is a “work where it works best” company. Meaning we will support you in working in whatever location that works best for you across the US. We will continue to have our headquarters in Columbus and offices in other locations to give more flexibility and more choice about how we live and work.

What you'll achieve.

  • Write and standardize queries for building a consistent view of the business
  • Automate regular forecast monitoring exhibits and visualizations
  • Evaluate trends in business metrics and provide written summaries for leadership
  • Perform deep-dive analysis to answer questions around causes of key business trends
  • Derive assumptions from historical data for key unit economic variables
  • Complete ad hoc data analysis or modeling as required to support forecasting activities

What we're looking for.

  • 1+ years of experience in data analytics            
  • Advanced skills in SQL with the ability to write complex and optimized queries        
  • Basic programming skills in Python (preferred) or R a plus            
  • Familiarity with enterprise data visualization tools (Tableau, Mode, etc.) a plus
  • Familiarity with Excel financial models a plus
  • Analytical mindset with intellectual curiosity for understanding the cause of trends in data
