OverviewThe individual will be a critical part of the Data Management team working within GMO’s Enterprise Data Management group. The Data Management team’s main responsibilities are the maintenance and validation of securities and portfolios, building business requirements for new data mappings, and ensuring proper dataflow between firm wide systems and reports. The position interacts with GMO’s various investment and operational teams, and offers the opportunity to enhance analytical, organizational, project management, and communication skills. We are looking for an individual comfortable working independently and with a strong work ethic and sense of accountability to the team. The analyst should be aware of and highly interested in the on-going changes in the financial industry and the impacts those have on data management. 

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain security master and portfolio data
  • Monitor, modify and write new control reports to ensure security master attributes are accurate and reflected consistently across the firm
  • Acquire a working knowledge of GMO’s operations to ensure a complete understanding of how data affects operational and investment performance
  • Provide a high level of customer service to all other areas of GMO’s ecosystem in order to ensure critical operational, reporting, and trading requests are completed in a timely manner
  • Obtain a clear understanding of all security attributes and security types including, but not limited to, equities, fixed income, and all derivative types
  • Analyze data in multiple databases and make recommendations for new methods to improve data quality using a combination of vendor toolsets, Excel, and SQL
  • Think critically to help improve processes and procedures (e.g. control reports, daily check list, etc.)
  • Build business requirements for the onboarding of new data sets and collaborate with GMO’s Information Technology teams to bring the onboarding to fruition
  • Participate as an operational/business team member in an Agile development environment (e.g. attend scrum meetings, explain business needs, assist with prioritizing development tasks) 

Required Skills and Characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 0-4 years of relevant working experience with data in an investment operations, project management, or data analysis role required; financial industry experience a plus.
  • High energy and positive attitude – candidate should be conscientious, self-directed and possess a strong work ethic
  • Flexibility to be on call to log in at night as needed on a rotational basis
  • Intellectual curiosity to continue to develop data management knowledge and gain exposure to the investment management business
  • Strong attention to detail is required
  • Proficiency with Excel and SQL is desired
  • Working knowledge of BlackRock Aladdin is highly desired
  • Working knowledge of Eagle PACE is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg, MSCI, Thomson Reuters and other market data providers is a plus
  • Working knowledge of a Business Process Management tool is a plus
