Description:

Marsh UK - Regional Data Leader

As the UK Leader for all things Data in Marsh, you will partner with our CEO, COO and business leaders, helping them grow the business and gain competitive advantage with your strategic foresight and clarity of thinking. Presenting and delivering major programmes of work which are directly impacting the future state of this business gives you’re a terrific platform for continued career progression across this complex, global organisation.

We have a team of data experts for you to shape and lead across our Data ecosystem. Whilst we expect you’ll have deep knowledge across the domain, this is not hands on role and your value is in your business engagement and people leadership.

There are significant global projects which impact the UK and you’ll be the voice of global data in the UK. Locally, we have the impact of Blueprint Two to digest and critical projects in our Specialities and Risk Management business to deliver.

You’ll be working with senior leaders across the business to set the data strategy and empowering your team to deliver against it.

Organisation Context

The Regional Data Leader position is part of Marsh Data Services (“MDS”), which sits within the broader Operations and Technology (“O&T”) organization.  The Regional Data Leaders report into a global lead within MDS, and also have a matrix reporting line into the O&T leader for that region.  They will serve on the regional O&T leader’s leadership team and will enable the connection with global MDS groups and activities. Given the nature of these relationships, the successful candidate will need to be comfortable operating within a matrix structure with a combination of regional and global responsibilities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for working with regional stakeholders (i.e. Technology, Operations, Business, Digital) to define, implement and manage data initiatives within that region (e.g. Claims, Policies and Placement, Fiduciary/Revenue, and Reference Data). They are also responsible for ensuring that regional data needs are articulated at the global level and that global initiatives are implemented locally—essentially facilitating the bi-directional flow of information and systems implementation.

This is a senior leadership position that requires exceptional communication and collaboration skills alongside deep data knowledge and experience defining and delivering complex data initiatives. The position works with business users to understand their needs and instantiate those needs in applications, operational processes and strategic insights. The successful candidate is expected to become expert in the data and initiatives associated with these regional businesses and feel comfortable sitting with business executives in supporting their decision making process.

We will count on you to:

  • Design, coordinate and implement an articulated Data Strategy plan based on Global, Regional and Local requirements.
  • Support the development and delivery of operational, analytical, and transactional systems that provide measurable and differentiated business value to the enterprise.
  • Maintain and develop a wide network of effective relationships with other department heads to align departmental priorities across operation, technology and business stakeholders.
  • Communicate locally with appropriate stakeholders the global data initiatives and support the adherence to global data standards.
  • Communicate regional business data requirements such that the design of global systems include these requirements for planning and design purposes.
  • Support a diverse set of overlapping regional stakeholders in navigating the balance between short-term imperatives with long-term strategic objectives.
  • Provide insights to our colleagues on how to optimize their current processes and achieve continuous states of improved data quality.
  • Help to educate stakeholders on the ‘art of the possible’ with regard to their data, and help to bridge business and technical discussions in this regard.
  • Recruit, train, mentor and manage a team of first class data professionals as appropriate to support regional data needs.
  • Guide the development of data oriented dashboards that inspire colleagues to think expansively and outside the box as well as dashboards that delight our clients.
  • Work with regional business users on translating their use cases into business and technical requirements according to global standards, including leading business strategy planning efforts and developing high-level strategies across departments.
  • Work with regional business and technology partners to understand associated metrics and identify potential operational efficiencies associated with in-scope regional data processes.

What you need to have:

  • Experience with a similar role, ideally within the Insurance or Financial Services Industries.
  • Extensive, hands-on experience with data systems and their associated operations.
  • Deep and abiding appreciation for all things data—its role, impact, challenges, and potential with an organization.  It is especially important to be knowledgeable in the full gamut of Data Quality dimensions and processes.
  • Ability to attract, train, manage and retain talent.
  • Ability to create differentiated, insightful and inspiring Dashboards in concert with our centre of excellence resources in Mumbai.
  • Solid understanding of Data Management and Data Governance concepts, processes, technologies, and issues.
  • Experience structuring and managing behaviour change across complex, global organizations.
  • Extensive experience decomposing system processes from a workflow perspective to drive performance enhancements.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, along with ability to extract business requirements from client use cases and translating these requirements into technical specifications.
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate at all levels of a global organization to ensure the successful implementation of change.
  • An inquisitive mind that is not afraid to question current ways of thinking.
  • Experience operating independently but also knowing when to ask for help.
  • Ability to think creatively (vs. by rote) to ensure completeness, accuracy, and utility.
  • Ability to generate, sell and execute creative solutions to complex business problems.

What makes you stand out:

  • Understanding of the insurance market—players, processes, challenges/opportunities, and technologies
  • Understanding of information (e.g. sources, identifiers, standards, glossaries, and taxonomies) within the insurance industry data domain.
