Do you want to contribute to “real world” applications and gain experience in the development of innovative ideas? Then join the growing Artificial Intelligence Competence Center at NXP.

As a member of the CTO organization, you’ll join NXP’s team of specialists to lay the groundwork for product innovation. Teams within the CTO organization supply the company with the advanced ideas and solutions for products that sense, think, connect, and act – while always collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to meet customer objectives. This role gives you the authority and opportunity to enable NXP’s colleagues, customers, and partners to create breakthroughs in Edge AI that advance the world.

The work is performed in the AI Competence Center of NXP at the Central Technology Office (CTO), embedded in NXP’s global AI-activities. The AICC is the partner of business lines to identify, develop, benchmark, and enable disruptive Edge AI solutions on NXP-systems. You will be part of an exciting community that works on state-of-the-art technology and beyond.

Exciting successful projects that have been run at NXP in the context of Edge AI are Software- and Hardware-Aware Neural Architecture Search (NAS), Mixed-Precision Quantization in the context of NAS, machine learning protection by model watermarking, and others.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and lead the evaluation and development of next generation compiler technology for AI/ML-workloads
  • Align NXP business line requirements and identify their commonalities for AI/ML-compiler technology
  • Analyze, adapt and extend the compilation flow of AI/ML-compiler frameworks such as Apache TVM or MLIR IREE and the like with respect to identified requirements
  • Architect and develop the integration of custom Neural Processing Units (NPUs) into AI/ML-compiler frameworks.
  • Align the integration of the developed, adapted, and extended compiler frameworks into NXP’s AI tooling.
  • Communicate and continuously align the development with business line interests and needs
  • Methodological approach for keeping track of state-of-the-art in the relevant fields
  • Strong interaction with NXP partners in business lines and central organizations

Your Profile and required competencies

  • University degree: PhD in Computer with significant exposure/involvement with Machine Learning, Edge AI, and Embedded Systems
  • 8+ years of experience in software and hardware engineering in the industry using standard development tools (e.g., git, bitbucket, unit test driven development, using CI/CD, docker, etc.)
  • Excellent track record of peer-reviewed publications and contributions to embedded machine learning and Edge AI including hardware/software/algo-co-design
  • Shown thought leadership and the affinity to create a community on EdgeAI, e.g., by giving lectures and organizing events and symposia on EdgeAI or AI/ML-compilers
  • Strong experience on neural processing unit (NPU) design and AI/ML-enabled dedicated processor architecture
  • Very strong programming skills in C++ and Python
  • Affinity and experience with embedded processors, software, and machine learning accelerators
  • Broad experience with Operating systems GNU/Linux, embedded systems, development boards
  • Capability to work independently and accurately paired with strong critical and analytical thinking.
