About the job

This position is needed to align Flex’s data and event driven architecture needs. 

Flex is looking for a seasoned data architect with deep experience with distributed systems and platform engineering principles. You are passionate about operational excellence and know how to build software that delivers it. You are able to think at scale, define, and meet stringent availability and performance SLAs while ensuring quality and resiliency challenges across our diverse product and tech stacks are addressed.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Engage with Flex and other Twilio teams to provide a vision for a data in transit and rest where multiple teams and customers contributes to
  • Deliver mechanisms for reduce engineering toil
  • Ensure Flex’s data usage is always under compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, Schrems II, FedRamp
  • Work closely with Product to generate a roadmap of data usage and adhering to principles
  • Work closely with Engineering teams to ensure that solutions are compliant, reliable, scalable and loved by our customers

Required:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in designing data platforms platforms
  • Are an API first developer who understands the power of platforms
  • Expert knowledge of relations and non relational datastores
  • Expert knowledge of queuing and messaging systems
  • Expert knowledge of schemas and IDL framework to support data at rest and transit
  • Domain driven design experience
  • Can successfully lead teams through very challenging engineering problems
  • Excellent communicator and consensus builder
  • Have demonstrated the ability to design complex systems in an iterative and evolutionary manner
  • Have the ability to balance long-term objectives with urgent short-term needs 
  • Partner with Product to define tangible product objectives and work with engineering on how best to achieve them
  • Public cloud experience, AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI

Desired:

  • AWS expert, knowledge of Aurora, DynamoDB, ElasticCache S3, SQS, SNS
  • Kafka, MySQL experience 
  • DeveloperXP champion incrementally improving productivity of engineers
  • OpenAPI, AsycAPI, grpc experience
  • Leading inter team and inter organization initatives, preferably with hands on experience delivering prototypes

Location 

This role will be remote based on US East coast

Approximately 5% travel is expected

Colorado applicants:
  • The estimated pay range for this role, based in Colorado, is $213,120 - $266.400
  • Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Twilio's equity plan.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state. This role is also eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
