Hours: 37.5 per week
Salary: $32.58 to $40.73 per hour (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Status: Temporary Full-Time, 18 Months
Closing Date: May 17, 2024

Position Summary

The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst reports to the Senior Manager, Cogito Reporting. By working closely with Business Intelligence Developers and clinical/business application analysts, this position is responsible for implementing report content and analytics tools to meet end-user data needs in Epic, our new Health Information System (HIS). 

Duties

  • Lead/facilitate Epic reporting content requirements gathering sessions with report consumers/stakeholders and clinical/business application analysts;
  • Provide professional internal and client-facing documentation (SRS - System Requirement Specifications, BRD - Business Requirements Documentation, etc.);
  • Build or modify Epic reports, templates, dashboards, and scorecards for report consumers;
  • Create data for report testing and ensure that all application dashboards and reports are thoroughly tested;
  • Review peer reports for validity, accuracy and completeness;
  • Evaluate overall consumer satisfaction with Epic reports developed and distributed;
  • Test analytics build in specified testing environments and conduct volume testing in live environments;
  • Review documentation for each new application update or upgrade, assessing impact to existing reporting content and tools, and determining how to implement the changes;
  • Configure and test new Epic-released content, prior to implementation of each application update/upgrade;
  • Maintain the Epic Analytics Catalog and associated metadata records;
  • Design, implement, and maintain an enterprise-wide reporting security policy;
  • Assist with the development of training curriculum for training of Reporting Power Users;
  • Resolve Epic reporting content and user access issues;
  • Act as a primary support contact for Epic reporting needs.
  • Who You Will Work With
    • Data and reporting subject matter experts to identify the needs of report consumers;
    • Business Intelligence Developers (BIDs) to identify, design, and develop appropriate solutions for various reporting needs;
    • Application and clinical teams (e.g. Cardiac, Oncology, etc.) to resolve any identified data quality or other issues that arise, which are related to them;
    • BI Analysts, BI Developers, and other members of the Community of Practice to share knowledge and best practices with them as a participating member.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Epidemiology, Industrial Engineering, Business Analytics, or equivalent;
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experiences in analyzing, designing, testing and deploying Business Intelligence and Data Analytics reporting tools and content;
  • Experience configuring, testing, and validating reports and dashboards for accuracy;
  • Proficiency and demonstrated experience with analytics tools;
  • Expertise in business analysis and requirements gathering is required;
  • Sound understanding of reporting terminology and proficiency with relational database concepts are required;
  • Familiarity with Epic applications and database structure, preferred;
  • Knowledge of clinical and business workflows and financial reporting requirements in a Canadian healthcare setting preferred;
  • Certification in Epic Cogito preferred;
  • Experience with SQL is an asset;
  • Experience using cubes is an asset.

  • Ability to lead requirements gathering sessions, document user requirements and translate them into useful solutions;
  • Ability to translate end-user workflow-based report requests to specific data points required for report development;
  • Ability to analyze data, problem-solve, and clearly communicate solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
  • Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team-oriented environment;
  • Ability to learn in a self-directed, fast-paced, rapidly-changing environment;
  • Ability to take ownership of work activities, ensuring that they are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner;
  • Ability to gain an in-depth understanding of Epic data models through data model classes geared toward content area.
