Overview

LMI is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support a federal program management office (PMO) charged with planning, acquiring, and managing the deployment and operation of technology and capabilities to keep our borders safe.  We are seeking an energetic self-starter who is focused on practical and efficient solutions delivered by an interdisciplinary, collaborative team.  This individual will provide quality assurance support to the client’s program management office, located in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Data Engineer you will help develop and deploy technical solutions to solve our customers’ hardest problems, using various platforms to integrate data, transform insights, and build first-class applications for operational decisions. You will leverage everything around you, core customer products and anything you and your team can build to drive real impact. Duties include meeting with clients to determine their software needs, coding, and testing software to ensure functionality and updating software programs to refine components like cybersecurity measures and data storage capacities.

 

Core Responsibilities 

  • Setup transfers of data feeds from source systems and integrate with existing data utilizing enterprise architecture best practices
  • Debug issues related to delayed or missing data feeds
  • Monitor build progress and debug build problems in conjunction with deployment teams
  • Rapid development and iteration cycles with SME’s including testing and troubleshooting application issues
  • Gather and evaluate user feedback
  • Recommend and execute improvements
  • Create technical documentation for reference and reporting
  • Create dashboards for actionable decisions for senior leaders

Qualifications

  • SENIOR LEVEL: 10+ years of relevant experience and a STEM BS degree or 7 years relevant experience and a MS degree in computer science or systems engineering.
  • Strong expereince with Microsoft Power BI
  • Strong engineering background, preferably in fields such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or Data Science.
  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python (Pyspark, Pandas) SQL, R, JavaScript, or similar languages.
  • Working knowledge of databases and SQL;  linking analytic and data visualization products to database connections
  • Ability to work effectively in teams of technical and non-technical individuals.
  • Skill and comfort working in a rapidly changing environment with dynamic objectives and iteration with users.
  • Demonstrated ability to continuously learn, work independently, and make decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Proven track-record of strong customer communications including feedback gathering, execution updates, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to learn new languages and technologies
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills
  • Resourcefulness and troubleshooting aptitude

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a comprehensive government security investigation must meet eligibility requirements for access to sensitive information. The background investigation includes financial, criminal, residential, educational, foreign affiliation, and employment verifications.
  • US citizenship required
  • Highly Preferred: Active/Full U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) BI
  • This position is contingent on passing a CBP Background Investigation
