Job Summary:

The Data Steward will help improve data quality and consistency and support program data governance requirements by documenting and publishing accurate metadata for data elements, contributing to greater understanding of the data element and its fitness for use. Data Stewards are guardians and decision makers for specific data elements, responsible for understanding metadata, usage, standards, and quality for specific data elements. In this role, the Data Steward is expected to process and validate metadata on large volume of data elements gathered via crowdsourcing, AI/ML, targeted migrations of data and other metadata mining efforts (e.g. logical and physical model ingestion). The Data Steward will govern data in the Teradata data , Oracle, and AWS environments and possibly additional environments. The Data Steward  will also contribute to more detailed data governance including profiling of data elements, research, and documentation of element usage, identify data quality issues, and identify and remediate metadata issues.

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify data quality issues.
  • Analyze and remediate metadata issues.
  • Contribute to CCB Data Management’s efforts in gathering, reviewing, editing as needed, and publishing metadata.
  • Understand, disseminate, and adopt all applicable data policies, standards and processes.
  • Provide status on assigned work items for management and stakeholders on a recurring basis.
  • Engage with subject matter experts (SMEs) within the business to develop/enhance knowledge and understanding of the line of business processes, systems of record and authoritative sources and their usage. 
  • Update terms and definitions for critical data elements in conjunction with partners.
  • Contribute to development of new tools and processes to allow for more efficient collection, review, and management of metadata on large volumes of data elements.
  • Produce managerial reporting of metadata issues.
  • Support report creation for regulatory reporting.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Capabilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in business preferred or related equivalent work experience with at least 6 years of experience in Data consumption, Metadata or Data Quality team.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a major financial services organization.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in any of the following disciplines: Data usage, Process Analysis, Process Improvement, Technology Development/Support.
  • Proficiency working with Alteryx.
  • Proficiency performing SQL queries, including joins.
  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand business and technical functions, process information quickly and assess business impacts.
  • Ability to interpret and apply standards and guidelines to large quantities of data elements in a fast-paced, highly efficient manner with high quality.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Working knowledge of Tableau, JIRA, Collibra Databook, SharePoint, Confluence, Alteryx, Collibra Data Quality is added advantage. 

 

Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Capabilities

  • Advanced MS Office suite skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Project).
  • Persistent, Problem Solver.
  • Highly organized as the role requires keeping up with the ever-changing environment. Examples include new and improved tools and methodology to capture and process metadata.
  • Minimal direction required.  Data Stewards are expected to be self-starters who can independently manage high volume of data element metadata work within their queue.
