We are looking for a hands-on Director or Senior Director level scientist to lead our Machine Learning & AI research group. The group designs and implements the deep learning and AI architectures that power our discovery and development pipeline, with a strong focus on original research and publications. The position reports to the VP of machine learning cheminformatics & research. As a (Senior) Director of Machine Learning & AI at Atomwise, you will:

  • Design/Identify, implement and validate the next generation of machine/deep learning and AI model architectures and tools at Atomwise.
  • Manage and grow an industry-leading team of a half dozen PhD ML scientists and engineers to meet our fast-growing needs for high-performance, predictive models across our pipeline.
  • Establish and manage collaborations with leading academic groups and partners.
  • Take the lead on publishing and presenting Atomwise technologies in high-impact journals and international conferences.

As part of a dynamic R&D team, you interact daily with computational chemists, biologists, software engineers, data scientists, and cheminformaticians. 

Required qualifications

  • Ph.D in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computational Chemistry/Physics, Cheminformatics, or a related quantitative discipline
  • A recognized leader in the field of machine learning and AI, demonstrated by a strong publication record or other major contributions to the field
  • Experience with one or more areas of geometric deep learning, generative models, and reinforcement learning
  • Experience with pre-clinical drug discovery in a pharma setting, and with large-scale cheminformatics data
  • Expert knowledge of the Python machine learning frameworks, e.g., PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Pro-active team player and creative problem solver 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by influence across diverse teams and balance research against deliverables
  • 7+ years of relevant experience, and 2+ years leading and growing a team
  • Strong familiarity with Linux command-line environment

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience creating scalable solutions utilizing vast amounts of data
  • Understanding the fundamentals of biomolecular interactions
  • Experience with cloud computing environments (AWS/Azure/GCE)
  • Ability to deliver production-quality code; experience with code review
