Job Title: Data Engineering Manager

Location: Bangalore

Business & Team:

Technology Team is responsible for the world leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of CommBank, from innovative product platforms for our customers to essential tools within our business. We also use technology to drive efficient and timely processing, an essential component of great customer service.

The Group Security (GS) team protects the Bank and our customers from cyber compromise, through proactive management of cyber security, privacy, and operational risk. Our team includes:  

- Cyber Strategy & Performance  

- Cyber Security Centre  

- Cyber Protection & Design  

- Cyber Delivery  

- Cyber Data Engineering 

- Identity & Access Technology   

The Group Security Data Engineering team provides specialised data services and platforms for the CommBank group & is accountable for developing Group’s data strategy, data policy & standards, governance and set requirements for data enablers/tools. The team is also accountable to facilitate a community of practitioners to share best practice and build data talent and capabilities.

To ensure the Group achieves sustainable competitive advantage through data engineering, you will need to play a key role in supporting and executing the Groups data strategy. 

In your role as a Data Engineering professional, you will be required to maintain and build excellent relationships with peers and stakeholders as well as actively contribute to business outcomes and team culture.  

You will be required to maintain and build productive relationships with:  

  • Business Stakeholders, Project Sponsor, Benefits Sponsor, Change Owner, and Project Steering Group  
  • Crew Leads and Product Owner  
  • Business Analysts and Solution Designer  
  • Release Management Team  
  • Administration and operational support teams


Roles & Responsibilities 

You will be expected to perform the following tasks in a manner consistent with CBA’s Values and People Capabilities. 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Understand our customers' core business objectives and build end-to-end data centric solutions to address them.  
  • Contribute to thought leadership enabling data engineering team to deliver world class data centric solutions and analytics by championing sustainable and re-useable data products.  
  • Participate in the full lifecycle of agile projects (ideation through implementation).  
  • Design and build group data products by integrating diverse data from hundreds of internal and external sources.  
  • Help to promote good coding standards and practices to ensure high quality and minimum risks.  
  • Support the design and construction of large-scale automated machine learning and data mining.  
  • Your ability to collaborate with peers along individuals with different experiences and backgrounds is key.  
  • Develop a continuous improvement mindset in team and project interactions. 
  • Apply a risk management approach to achieve consistency and compliance with CBA standards. 
  • Operate within the CBA Group risk appetite and effectively manage strategic and operational risk related to data.

Essential Skills:

  • Must have at least 10+ years of IT experience in Data Engineering. 
  • Identify and drive opportunities for continuous improvement within the team and in delivery of products.  
  • Provide mentoring and technical assistance to other members of the team.  
  • Produce high quality, sustainable solutions to meet business requirements, leveraging approved delivery frameworks and applying industry best practice.  
  • Provide technical governance of product delivery to ensure successful delivery and adoption.  
  • Help to promote good coding standards and practices to ensure high quality.  
  • Experience in Hadoop/HDFS, Teradata, Unix/Bash Scripting, SQL (HiveQL), Job Orchestration (Airflow, Autosys, etc.), Spark, Kafka streaming data, Ab Initio, AWS (Amazon Web Services) Cloud.  
  • RDBMS Experience on any prominent Database is required with strong SQL expertise.  
  • AWS Cloud Experience is strongly desirable.  
  • Strong knowledge of Datawarehouse concepts like SCD and CDC.  
  • Experience in CI/CD processes like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Teamcity, etc.  
  • Domain experience in finance, banking, Insurance 


Qualifications: 
Essential:

  • Proven Experience working with Agile methodologies. 
  • A degree in Engineering / Computer Science or a related discipline  
  • Minimum 10+ years of Experience in IT Industry, with 2+ exp in leading and managing the team.  

Desirable: 

  • Recognised industry certifications  
  • Specialties: Data warehousing, Big Data, ETL (Extract Transform Load) Tooling, CI/CD, AWS /Cloud Services.  
  • Experience in Design (Mapping specifications, HLD, LLD), Development (Coding, Testing)  
  • Develop/Implement Test Strategy  
  • Additional industry or product certification Tertiary qualifications in an IT/computer-related discipline  
  • Experience working in a security domain.
